I am hearing Kruger and/or Shaw could be dealt. Hearing another name I was asked not be shared at this time.

Does this go along with your Hawks and Flames are talking?

He had 15 goals last season and is very good on the PK. If Kruger goes to Calagry I bet the Hawks ask about Frolik.

What I just heard, from a normally pretty solid source, guy who tipped me on the Hawks being in the WC last year long before it became official:

(and I apologize in advance for the confusion—lots of conflicting stuff flying around)

- Hawks are shopping about 5 guys with contracts (or contract demands) north of $3 million per
- Team feels they gave out too many big contracts to too many guys
- They want a POWER FORWARD type LW. Kane and Toews specifically have lobbied
for . . . Milan Lucic.
- They want a guy to play with them who can both play and provide some physical protection.
- Source believes Malkin thing is just a smokescreen, Hawks may have asked but there was never serious interest

I have to be honest with you guys, all of this makes a lot more sense to me. But too much out there right now that conflicts, so I am still ferreting through and asking some questions

- John Jaeckel

Not only does this seem more logical I also like the sound of this much better than whatever financial gymnastics would be needed to get Malkin (especially considering the negative effect of the expansion on the cap you're gonna need to save every dollar for Panarin and Malkin would just make that harder)

Yea , but isnt that 1.45m more for Frolik over Freddy ?

Big piece CC or Seabrook for Frolik ? Saves 5m .....

There would have to be some salary retention with the Flames. No way Hawks are absorbing more $$$ through this trade.

If Bowman is able to unload Bollig AND Mashinter to the Flames.....GM of the year

The Hawks PK has never recovered from losing Frolik. I know he was banged up last year and missed a good amount of time. If his health checks out, he would be a great guy to add to the Top 9 Wing group. Especially if Shaw cannot be retained and a true 1LW cannot be added. As for Panarin, I really hope he is extended very soon!

Think the Hawks take a shot on Wideman regaining some form if they move Seabs to CGY (please, no). CC, Kruger, Seabs for Frolik (or Backlund) and Wideman (50% retained) and a pick/prospect?

The eye test to me on the PK was not the personnel but the coaching and the system

When the PK was very good, they were aggressive and put pressure on the puck carriers

They reverted hard back to standing around and letting the other team slice up the box. Way too passive

The fact that we would have to retain on seabrook (IMO)and kruger and they have not even starting playing on there new deals make me really wonder who is pulling the strings in the front office? I give Tampa a ton of Credit. instead of caving to stamkos demands at 11 mil they said we can do 9 mil (my guess) and he will probably do it compared to signing for 7 years at 11 mil in a city like buffalo or Toronto. IMO. Bowman call a bluff once in a while. Players want to come to CHI and you do not have to pay 10% more and 1 year longer. If you told Seabs all we could do is 6 X 6 do you think he walks? you tell Kruger 2.4 X 4.

Frolik can play the dot as well. He is a ferocious back checker and an all effort guy like Shaw. Over paid? Sure. Who isnt these days besides Panarnin.

Thanks, did not realize.

Could this be JJ's major "surprise" return player?

Then you're down to two experienced NHL defenseman. What Campbell brings is not equivalent to what Seabrook brings. Just my opinion.

You are probably right, but do you think that had something to do with to personnel that the coaches had on the PK? Frolik has always been a great skater with excellent agility/change of direction. Guys like Desi just dont have the quickness to pressure all over the ice on the PK. Just spitballing here...

I should've clarified I meant Kruger and Frolik as two players in a multi player trade. Not a 1 for 1 trade.

That's not your opinion, that's a fact. I'll wait until things come out, I won't accept moving Seabrook "just to clear salary". If he is moved it damn well better be worth it. WORTH IT!!!

I try not to be pro-player or pro-owner as I can see it from both sides, but the point is......back in 2009 when Hawks had to overpay to lure in Campbell or Huet they failed to do LT cap planning. They had a MAJOR internal snafu that cost them extra year windows on those RFAs and Talon fell on the sword but got his name on the cap. Ship sailed.

This time around, how does ANY GM plan long term when at meetings yourself are at, or your owner and president attend everything is always sky high and you are left time and time again with your pants down? Stamkos will probably exceed 19/88 cap hit, and I would take 19/88 over Stamkos 100 out of 100 times. That's not being a Hawks fan, that's me being a hockey fan and wannabe GM....

It's time the management and NHLPA look at the league office and wonder what the hell is going on and how they continually have BAD intell on the major force driving their game: salary cap. From bad American TV deals, mismarketing of stars, and so on....this game, the NHL, is a free fall and a MAJOR restructuring of it's financial plan will have to happen. I don't see how it doesn't.

Just lunacy and Bettman needs to go ASAP. The major market owners need to band together and push this and could care less what the budget conscience guys want. They have had their run since 2013 and the sport is getting worse and worse by the day.

- SteveRain

Steve, the problem is the currency (you know that). The only way around that is when the next CBA is negotiated, you have a cap that's set no matter what the FX rate does, which will never happen. The owners won't agree to it because if the CAD crashes, the Canadian team owners stand to lose millions. If it goes the other way, the NHLPA leaves money on the table. There really is no ideal situation, but that's because the NHL has teams transacting in multiple currencies, which is unique to their sport. Even European soccer transacts in Euro, not local currency.
