Could this be a CC chat?? If so and Backlund is a target, then there is another C to backfill any loss of Shaw/Kruger. Of course Im prolly miles off.. again!

You might be "off," but I like what you're thinking.

Watch hawks and Calgary. They're talking.
- John Jaeckel

Calgary doing its due diligence on all goalies that could be available. Treliving is very active so far. Hopefully Bowman somehow gets Backlund. Backlund would slot as our #2 center ahead of Anisimov. He had an incredibly productive season on a terrible Flames team

Kruger's name still out there on Twitter...Risky move dealing him too, but such is the case in cap hell.
- Al

I am hearing Kruger and/or Shaw could be dealt. Hearing another name I was asked not be shared at this time.

Only issue I see here is Panarin not being extended.
- Dabearshawks

They can and will have tag space to do it.

How they make it all work by 2017 training camp is beyond comprehension and way too many moving pieces to possibly guess at.

IF Panarin wants to stay, Hawks will find a way. They wont' go down Saad road again, because they dont' have another Panarin coming in....and if anyone says Nick Schmaltz, please go buy a Teuvo jersey.........

Told ya those dummies would take McNeil !

- mrpaulish

It is quite possible. Todd Woodcroft has spent a good amount of time at the rink in Rockford. He could have fallen in love with McNeill.

Here we go again...Schmaltz and Kruger for garbage and Hawks retain salary
- kwolf68

Doubt Bowman trades Schmaltz they (Hawks front office) like him A LOT. If they could get another young highly regarded prospect in the trade though it might be worth taking a look at.

You and I knew that but many refused to look at a step away from the emotional connect that "Krooga" gives them. I like Kruger the player. I hate his deal, and especially hate it when the cap goes up a whopping 1+ million THIS year and more then lkely is FLAT next year at best.

So while many will sit here and bemoan it, from a ROI it's a smart move. Now the only reason he wont' be dealt iis because the return isn't suffice OR the RSA asked of the Hawks exceeds what they want to do. I would expect them to offset the latter with a sweetner, welcome Mr. McNeil.

In the end if I'm a NHL owner and a player I'm royally pissed off. The league has flat out lied regarding cap numbers and their predictions are way off. There aren't enough teams with ample budgets/cap space to sign guys to market deals and teams looking to dump bad deals have to throw in high sweetners to get it done.

A perfect storm of cap hell blowing up in Bettmnan's face and again.....Hawks will be right up against it next year and I think Bowman very well knows that and is trying to get AHEAD of the market giving up a lesser important piece in kruger vsCrawford or higher end core piece.

Could be totally off, but that IMO is what I get out of all this. And again...this very well could come down to shaw vs Kruger, both Q favories but who is more versatile should they need to fill ample holes in roster on the fly......

- SteveRain

This is the main point in the NHL right now. The league office has been chanting growth for years, but it hasn't happened. I know oil prices screwed everything up, but the NHL should have had that as a scenario for the owners. Seems like they didn't. These contracts are market value contracts for the players involved AND because they are 2-3 time Cup winners. Kruger may be overpaid, maybe not...but I think if you compare him across the NHL, this is about where he should be. Unfortunately, he plays on a team with three superstars, a budding superstar, and many other way above to above average players.
I hope they find a way to keep Kruger and Shaw, but if they have to go, they have to go.

Or Vegas Blackout Knights? so many options. And like someone just said, Kings> Knights. Why not do the Las Vegas Aces as Aces > Kings..,.

Las Vegas Mob? Show their history proudly.

Las Vegas Green Knights? After Moe, of course.

Las Vegas Bugs? After the visionary who built the first luxury hotel there - and was rewarded with massive amounts of lead.

Lots of appropriate names....

Idk why but I could see Shaw going there. My opinion is Crawford is the other. They already knocked on the doors of TB and Pittsburgh about goalies and came up short.
