Call me crazy, but I think that is a horrible contract. Not a fan of the money for a guy like Yandle (but I guess that's the market these days), but that term is horrendous. I think Yandle sucks, though, so my opinion of the deal reflects that perceived suckage! - GSimp1
great, I mean GREAT puck mover, great skater
below average shot from the point, one of weakest defenseman in the NHL in his own zone.

If you think they had a chance to win, I suggest you stop smoking what you're smoking!
They crawled into the playoffs! How soon we forget. |

I agree with all of that, jim. I also agree that this deal really does set the market for Shattenkirk, so he is certainly going to be traded. I really hate to see him leave, but it's the reality of the cap. |

lets be fair here though
the trade deadline was February 29th and the Rangers had a really good February
yeah, by the time the playoffs rolled around it was pretty apparent they weren't going to last long, but on February 29th I think they thought they were finally hitting their groove |

Rangers must move Staal and Nash and leave Stepan where he is. Stepan is our most consistant player and has been since the day he took the ice! Stepan's stats are solid and not to be used to get younger or other help. Both Buffalo and Edmonton are looking for help on D and both can afford G or Staal and both have top 6 forwards they can move and/or first round draft pics something Sather has given away in a desperate act to try and win a cup. We do need change for a chance to win the cup if you can't do it within two years time to rebuild. |

Agreed. But if you look at the entire season it was up and down. In December we only won 4 games. Some of the games that we won were based on good bounces and occasional great effort. You never really felt that the team is gelling and becoming a dominant force in the NHL. We were a good team (at times) not a great team. |

I know, but, the trade deadline happened to fall when they were playing their best hockey and there was no way they were selling |

Hypothetically let's say there's some legs to the Shattenkirk for Nash swap give or take what's added but that's the basis for the swap.
Then Stepan for Dumba and Tuch.
You would be able to move Klein and figure out a way to get rid of Girardi the right side looks locked down with Shattenkirk Dumba McIlrath.
If somehow my dream came true and we were able to do the McD for Draisitl/4th then flip the 4th+ for Kulikov and 23rd overall, that defense would be ridiculous.
Kulikov Shattenkirk
Skeji Dumba
Staal McIlrath
Girardi would likely have to be packaged with Hayes or Lindberg to get rid of him if he were to even be willing to waive his NMC.
Klein could be moved for a winger. |

Yes they can "Afford" them but that doesn't mean they WANT them, or they could add value to their teams. It's like when the crazy Jet Fans said they should go after Peyton Manning, yes they could afford him, but if you are Peyton Manning, why the hell would you go to the Jets? they had no chance of being a competitive team. There has to be a desire for both parties to get together, not just one side because it works for them. |

6 year NMC then a partial NMC to round out the contract...for a 29 year old. Crazy. |

Why not Step and Klein for Coyle and Dumba, I think that could happen and we still get a right handed center with more size back

I love these hypocrites who say "I don't hate the players, it's the contracts" then complain when the Rangers wouldn't give Yandle an even more insane deal |

It's an awful contract. I liked Yandle here but to think he is locked in long term, with a NMC for the majority of the deal, is absurd. |

My argument in trading Yandle at the deadline is purely from the hindsight perch. It was clear the team was trying to fortify for one last run but it doesn't change the fact they totally mismanaged this transaction from the start. |

I remember when Klein got hurt, whatever it was, broken thumb or whatever, and it looked like he was out 6 weeks, and you asked me what I'd do at that point, and I said sell.
talking about hindsight, I wonder if Klein had actually missed time with that injury instead of playing with it if they would have sold, at least not went out and bought Eric Staal |

I hated guy when he was on Boston. But Lucic is what this team needs a big strong nasty player who can score but will never happen cause he don't fit in AV system. |

I said it was the orginizations rationale for keeping him at the deadline, not mine. And 100 points was not sneaking into the playoffs. |

I've been big on getting Lucic too but it will cost way too much. He could really be a presence here & has Cup experience. He can score too, not just a big goon. |

Blame Klein.
Seriously though, in one hand it's hard to blame Sather in trying to put the team over the top to try and win a cup but the asset purge, and requisite bad decisions on some contracts, have really left this team in a tough spot.
Gorton is really going to have to earn his pay this summer if he somehow turns this mess into a contender next season. |
