Auston Matthews throws out first pitch for the Bisons

Mike Harrington ‏@BNHarrington · 5m5 minutes ago

Nary a boo for Matthews. Plenty of cheers. Solid pitch. #NHLDraft #Leafs

Nobody booed Matthews and he threw a nice pitch

Garf just told me he's just pulling a Bo Jackson - telling the Leafs if they draft him, he will play baseball instead.

He will only play in Buffalo.

With Stamkos.

If anybody is getting bought out for cap space it is one man. The most obvious choice, which MiB fails to mention. Milan Michalek.

1) Buying out Lupul makes no sense. Let's ride out his contract while we aren't desperate for cap space - instead of having him on the books in years 1,2,3,4(years 3 and 4 we will actually need our cap space for such things as ....the pursuit of Lord Stanley)

2) Greening actually played very well as a Leaf last year and his almost $3mil cap hit doesn't give us a huge savings this season as a buyout vs bury 925k in the minors and be left on the hook for the rest.

3) Michalek has no place on the Leafs. He only has 1 year left on his deal, meaning his buyout stays on the books for 2 years. 2 years that we probably don't need to spend to the cap.

I only think Michalek gets bought out if Stamkos signs - and even then the Leafs would trade Bozak and we could fit our entire roster in there. No buyouts necessary. No future years of lingering buyout caps.

BUYOUTS! Michalek or nothing. Definitely not Lupul(until next year at least).

Poop, really?

OK, this fills me with a little bit of hope.

I'd probably just prefer having him as a backup, unless we can get the classic 35 year old backup (who can actually stop a puck).

I know Sparks isn't elite but he should be the $1mm goalie your thinking of. maybe?

i just dont think buyouts are necessary

i do think they can move lupul and bozak... might have to pay to do it but its possible

greening and laich make up 2/3rds of a solid third line... allowing a young guy who the leafs project to be in that role play with them... which could give a young winger a lot of knowledge about playing in a checking role

- Dozzer

You don't have to pay to move Bozak. I know you and Burn and a few others around here really hate you some Bozak...but the reality is a 2nd line center who is above average at most aspects of the game - signed to a $4.2 million contract - is an asset that has value in the trade market.

If you're a legit contender then Bozak is a 3rd line center who can fill in for any injuries up the line-up and still play PP and PK.

You'd have to ask a Marlies fan.

I don't really have an opinion on Sparks or Bibeau.

Yeah, there is the out with bernier.

Hopefully paying the $2M bonus is enough to clean up another of nonis’ messes.

I’ve never bothered to add up the tab that Nonis has caused in dead money … must be close to $50M in actual dollars.

While we can agree whether or not he has trade value, you could certainly give him away for a 7th round pick.

Gleason buyout.

Retention on kessel plus paying the july 1 bonus before the trade.

Must be others.

I would be very surprised if Lupul was bought out. I think they eat his salary and let him play hoping he stays healthy. Don't forget his contract was front-loaded, so while he will make 5+ this year the actual salary will drop to just over 3m next year making it a lot more possible he gets dealt near this years trade deadline.

I think a Bozak deal is imminent if we get Stamkos, otherwise they may keep him until the trade deadline as well unless he's part of a package for d help.

I don't see Sparks or Bibeau ever becoming NHL caliber. Love to see Lou deal for Wedgewood from the NJ farm. Be a great backup and in 3 to 4 years maybe supplant Anderson.

I would find it hard to believe any team would take a chance on Bernier right now. I would bet he remains in TO and that management hopes he plays his was into becoming an asset again so they could get something decent at the deadline.

True. Teams would be beating each other up with hockey sticks to add Bozak for a 7th.

Bozak for a 2nd rounder is a steal for any team. Well, not last place teams that aren't trying to win and shouldn't be hiring BOzaks.(looking at you Oilers)

Guys...whether Lupul gets bought out or not, leave it to the PROS to make that decision. What the hell do we know. They probably have plans that nobody knows about.

Leave it to them.
