We should not trade JVR . We don't have many guys who have proven they can score goals, and JVR can.
Marner, Matthews, Nylander are all prospects at this point. JVR has delivered.

Hard to replace probably our best goal scorer for sure. Not many chips to trade for quality d-men though, and JVR is only signed for 2 more years. Depends on the importance placed on getting a top pairing guy for sure. You won't get one for Bozak and a 2nd rounder.

I've already told you what id like to see. Defenseman that can move the puck, not slow plodding dmen with diminishing skills and a bloated contract. Guys that are able to get the puck ip and out (goligiski) and not broken down bums that can't move the puck (girardi)

the issue is the leafs have only 2 legitimate top 6 guys

the rest of them are prospects or 3rd pairing guys being thrust into that role

and JVR is a cap management dream for a GM... including LouLams... you simply dont move him

when an organization trades they do so from their depth... which for the leafs is picks and legit prospects buried on the depth chart.... for instance ... percy.

until the kids prove they can handle the load you keep the limited top 6 talent the leafs have. plain and simple.

there is no guarantee marner even makes the team for instance... LouLams said himself in a recent interview that he thinks its best to bring the kids up later than sooner...patience leaf fans...

I have no doubt that Lou would trade JVR in the right trade.
JVR is a nice piece of the puzzle but IMO, Leafs would move him.

With the expansion draft, a few teams will be forced to move dmen aged 22-26 that they would normally not move.

I look for a trade opportunity over the next 12 months to bring a guy like that in. Gardiner, Rielly, +one and we’re maxed out for the expansion draft.

+30 year old dmen are available every year in the ufa market if we want to go down that road next year.

And the last 2 years of a 5-year goligoski contract are likely to suck is what i said.
