once again... stamkos

until he actually signs somewhere stop talking about him like he is already a leaf

he isnt.

as for marner.. what happens when the scrawny kid gets levelled by someone like doughty? he will get hurt... and badly

- Dozzer

You are the one not reading what I wrote. I only mentioned Stamkos as a possibility. Lets talk about Matthews as a center. He dominated as a pro in Europe. He is bigger and stronger physically. Marner - is actually bigger than Gilmour who did ok. No one worried about him being hit by bigger d-men, he hit back harder. Gallagher is one of the best players on Montreal, ditto for Marchand on Boston - both key players on their teams. Marner has way more talent than either of those two and is bigger than them, if you saw him play last year - I did, he plays with grit too, like the smaller Gilmour did. Matthews and Marner will be magic together for years to come. The point of improving the d-men is the quality up front far exceeds the back end at this point.

Remember how scrawny Patrick Kane was when he came into this league?
Seemed to work out ok for him.

I figured there'd be little to no chance of him making the team next season before the Leafs called Nylander up. After that move I'm not so sure they're committed to "overdeveloping" players before calling them up anymore. Seems to me like they'd be ok with Marner coming up as long as he plays ok.

I wouldn't say it's 100% that he'll play but I get the feeling that it's over 50%.

It is what it is ....MB and LL both said that it's all up to Marner. If he improves his strength and conditioning and reaches the goals they set then he's got a very good chance of being a Leaf. Those B.S. CHL rules are working in his favour as well.

The problem with that is the difference in "level" between the CHL and NHL is staggering.

didn't stop McDavid, McKinnon, Tavares, Duchene (good comparable of what Marner could do in his first year in NHL imo) and other coming from far inferior leagues (e.g. Eichel) in their first year NHL...

Fair enough. But it has stopped countless others. Not saying at all that Marner won't succeed. Just that it is a massive jump.

i did read your post... and i saw the stamkos bit as part of it so that made me turn away from the rest of the post

how many times do i need to say this? i am not convinced marner will return to junior and i am not convinced he will be on the leafs either

i am sitting back and waiting for him to prove it. i just refuse to get ahead of myself when it comes to him

If Leafs don't trade for a young top pairing dman, I wouldn't mind a short Campbell contract.

Nylander also didn't look NHL ready to me though. I might be in the minority there though. Didn't really like his play overall as a Leaf.

not the ones in the AHL

not everyone can make the jump from junior straight to the NHL... his talent level is there 100%... i question if he is ready physically... not saying he wont be.. just saying he needs to prove it first

just my perspective.. thats all.

It can't be dismissed that he is not capable of proving it.
He is elite at all parts of the hockey game...

...which is why IMO he will be better than Nylander next year. Not saying it a definite but just my opinion he will be.

he looked like a rookie... which he is.. and essentially will be again next year

this is what i mean.. nylander had the pro experience behind him

he also playing sheltered minutes as much as babcock could manage

The issue for me, with Nylander is that he was inconsistent. At times he looked great and other times he looked disinterested. I think it boils down to compete level....Babcock needs to get him to compete throughout every shift. If he does that, I think Nylander is going to be a fantastic NHL hockey player.
