who are you referring to with 'good defensivelý and grit'?
surely not Gardiner.

- MaximusAurelius

What? Where do you come up with this? You're clearly trolling.

It's a list (in order of importance) of what is needed for acquiring a dmen.

the issue is the leafs have only 2 legitimate top 6 guys

the rest of them are prospects or 3rd pairing guys being thrust into that role

and JVR is a cap management dream for a GM... including LouLams... you simply dont move him

when an organization trades they do so from their depth... which for the leafs is picks and legit prospects buried on the depth chart.... for instance ... percy.

until the kids prove they can handle the load you keep the limited top 6 talent the leafs have. plain and simple.

there is no guarantee marner even makes the team for instance... LouLams said himself in a recent interview that he thinks its best to bring the kids up later than sooner...patience leaf fans...

- Dozzer

I understand that you move from depth - problem is Percy is worth what? He was a wasted first rounder - just like Tyler Biggs - was basically an anchovy or throw in on the Kessel deal. Signing UFA d-men - is not a good solution either, Yandle to me is an ok guy but $6.3 million? How much does Hedman and Burns get next year? So your suggestion of patience means we draft d-men and hope one or two develop in the next 3-4 years. Problem is, by that time, JVR will probably be gone as a free agent.

For Werenski, Jones, and Puj I would. Easy for me to say though, as I don't have a horse in the race. If the Bruins had the first overall pick, I'd be torn with that offer.

yes.
it's as obvious as saying:

goalies:
- needs to stop shots; let as few goals in as possible; resulting in save percentage of above .930.

forwards:
- need to score goals. get assist. be gritty, physical. good defensive awareness...

etc.

turning down suggested options and just saying 'a d needs to be this and that' (describing Doughty) is not really adding very much to the discussion, and is trolling in my view

I got no problem trading JVR for a young top pairing Dman (needs to play physical hockey to compliment what we currently have).
As a matter of fact, I would encourage that trade.

and why do you think the leafs are in a hurry to stabilize the top pairing?

they keep saying be patient... be patient

no need to make a deal right now... they arent looking to challenge for the cup next year.... LouLams will wait before giving up the only legit top 6 winger they have.

keep in mind the leafs have andersen now... which will allow the young defencemen to play with more confidence... we might see a young guy step up his game due to this

no need to rush anything... not one bit.

agreed... cap management is becoming a huge thing.

teams will take picks or prospects to absorb another teams cap hit

its actually kind of interesting to watch all the maneuvering

- Dozzer

Expansion is likely to throw another variable into it. I wouldn't be surprised to see teams like the Leafs, that have little they need to protect, take on a player with a limited NTC or NMC that the team would otherwise HAVE to protect.
We might see some relatively big assets moved this way before 2017.

you and LouLams have very different philosophies

i am thankful for this

you guys are too sold on the idea that the leafs lineup will be full of young guys next year

i am still not entirely sold marner makes the team.. if he isnt ready physically to endure the rigors of a full NHL season he will be heading back to junior

under babcock... you have to make the team... no freebies. the leafs as a team come before marner
