Both Lovejoy and Letang are pretty tough nosed Dmen - if you can find that mix, it's the best case scenario.
Going with 4 soft dmen as your top 4 is not going to lead to a long playoff run.

Will they play him there? Yes

Will he be a Corsi god? No, unless they find him a true #1 to play with.

I think he'll turn into a good top pair guy...just not there yet.

- Garnie

Yes he is... He's probably a top 20 Dman in the world right now..

Rielly is legit, but will only improve.. Sure hes not on Letangs level yet, but he's still a 1D..

My mom could have played D for Pitts....look at the jacked forward lineup.

They have 3 lines better than our 1st line last year.

I agree you don't want useless D but lets not get crazy.

Here's a question...

I understand that the role of the enforcer is dying in this league, but with all the youth here and coming down the pipeline in the next couple years, who is going to throw down when teams start taking liberties on our young guys?

This is a little concerning.

The forwards helped the D out a lot.. Thats how they made it work.. It was kinda boring hockey.

He would be ideal. But if NJ deals him, they might as well deal Schneider.
They're not up for that is my guess (bc surely Leafs contacted NJ on Schneider) so I think he's untouchable at NJ.

Anaheim yes, but seems like Lindholm will not be moved either.

I'm wondering Ekholm from NSH (Josi and Weber not being moved?).

- MaximusAurelius

NJ will be making a move, JVR is from NJ and would be a significant piece for them - they need offence and badly - not many 30-40 goal scorers on the market. Anaheim will also be making a deal. Columbus is another team that is really screwed. I believe Seth Jones will see at least one offer sheet.

Sure, no one is sayi g 4soft guys. Thing is having a guy that is nothing more than banger a guy that can't move the puck isn't helping. Need to have guys that move the puck first and foremost. If you can get gritty physical guys that can do that all the better, but having just gritty guy is a waste.

I'm too lazy, go through the NHL 1st....I'm sure the top pairing on each team or at least 1 guy is as good or better at the moment.

All those forwards are useless if they are playing the whole game in their own zone. You think the pens would have been as good if they had girardi on their tam and spent all their time in the defensive zone.

Their d is weak, but it doesn't have to be strong if they are never in their zone.

We should not trade JVR . We don't have many guys who have proven they can score goals, and JVR can.
Marner, Matthews, Nylander are all prospects at this point. JVR has delivered.

Right now, with Reilly and Gardiner in the top 4, that's pretty soft! Zaitsev is supposed to bring some of that sandpaper and that would be a real bonus if he works out in the top 4. Need one more guy....I would even go for CBJ's JJ in the right deal to play with Rielly - short term until they can find a true 1D to play with him.
