If Mr Steven Stamkos (6 letters) wants an 8 yr deal he needs to sign it with Tampa.

Only then he get 8 years.

Any other NHL team either acquiring his rights and/or signing him can only sign him for 7 years.

And the rule I believe is a player must be on a teams roster the previous trade deadline and have term left on his deal in order to get 8 years. I.e. Why ROR only got a 7 yr extension.
