Certain posters will freak out no matter who Benning selects. I am trying to log their preferred selections so I can cross reference post draft. Ie. even if their "dream prospect" is chosen they will still freak out. I am keeping notes - CanuckDon
everyone should create an account on draftsite.com and make their own mock draft and can see who gets the most right! |

There lies the problem with most contracts. The player is near 30 and starting to decline in a couple of years but are expected to be paid even when they are worth nothing. - manvanfan
and that's why i wish benning stays away from top tier free agents. as the first couple years of a ufa contract should be the most productive, i believe that they should keep the cap space until the new core is entering their primes.
bringing in ufa talent before the young players are ready to emerge into "starring roles" will improve the team but not enough to make them a contender. when the new core is starting to enter their prime, it would be disastrous to be overpaying declining vets. it's okay to be paying vets to play out their contracts when the team is rebuilding... not when it should be contending. |

Well Lucic and McGinn are both 28. Ladd Eriksson brouwer are 30. Really at 34 most of these guys drop off pretty good. Unless your name is Jagr or Thorton.
He kind of has to bring in some FA's because he is trading youth for more nhl ready players. |

That would be my order probably but I also like to look at what a team is in most need of. Which Edmonton at 4. I just don't know. Most other teams seem to be pretty clear on what they need.

The hardest selection for me is Nylander at 6. Burke wants a forward with size pretty badly so it's possible he reaches for Brown or goes BPA who he may think is a Dman. |

i understand what he's doing and can surmise why. i just don't necessarily agree with the approach on a macro level (retooling on the fly) and on a micro level (meaning some of his moves).
either way, we're not going to know if he's right for a few years. i still think that the 2015 playoffs was a "dead cat" bounce. bringing in win now players may make them a playoff contender for a few years at the (possible) cost of being a real cup contender.
obviously, others see it differently and we won't know if benning's approach is the correct one or if he's just delaying the inevitable for a while yet. |

Assuming that Hutton and Virtanen's stint in Utica doesn't count and I haven't read anything about a minumum games played for those professional seasons.
.
Hutton played 4 games in the regular season but Jake only suited up for games during the playoffs.
Edit.
I believe that Nylander who played only 37 games in is not exempt. - belcherbd
The way I understand it is they MUST be in their 3rd year of ELC going into this year to be eligible for expansion draft.
The players exposed must of played 70 over 2 season or 40 in the season prior

Was TSN just reporting Panarin as winning calder? Or was it just who they thought should win? |

Put me down for Tkachuk, Dubois, Juolevi. I may have a little freak out no matter what, but won't likely demand that Benning get fired. |

I want Benning to draft Dubios. Any comparison to Jamie Benn is good enough for me. no freak outs though. I will be happy with Tkackuk or Juolevi as well. |

Alcohol to enable tears and a freak out or to prevent. I'll be watching with my nine year old, which should keep me clean. He's already mad at me for turning him into a Canucks fan. |
