I think people are putting way to much worry into losing one spare part.

Actually people around here might wanna warp their head around that. As time passes I don't see Brouwer coming here it's looking more and more like Eriksson and Lucic after a bit more cap space is freed up. I'm actually ok with both playing in Van just not busting the bank for them.

I hear what you are saying about a minimum number of games, but from what I can tell the NHL hasn't actually released that number. Maybe it only applies to players in the regular season as Jake only played in the playoffs.

Virtanen and Nylander were both drafted last year and both played at least partially in the AHL.

Nylander played 37 games last year for the Marlies which is the difference. So my guess is that playoffs don't count.

There is no number of games threshold. Rule states that all first and second year professionals are exempt. 2015-16 was Nylander's first professional year as he played in both NHL and AHL. 2016-17 will be his second year. At the time of the draft he will be a second year professional and exempt. I assume that is also true for Virtanen.

That would be great on so many levels. Their d and goaltending is a tire fire and they want to go sign another top 6 forward. I guess they were pissed they didn't win the lottery this year
