i don't think anything was happening. if you take enough pictures in sequence, some are going to have some weird/hilarious expressions as your face naturally contorts and moves.
this lets tmz types use a weird picture and claim that the person was angry/upset/crying/fat/happy/laughing etc. |

No, it would just be AHL and NHL. KHL has nothing to do with the NHL in any way at all. ECHL may also be impacted, but who would waste a pick on a guy who can't even make AHL? - Retinalz
Oh ok that makes sense ...was just looking at your D thinking if you had to protect tree that might give Benning n co a decision to make |

I know we're drafting Dubois and I'm excited for that, he's the player we should take, but damn I wish we could have Sergachev as well |

Tree is exempt. Must have played 2 seasons with a certain games played requirement. Hutton and Virtanen are also exempt. |

I think we will see a trade involving Phoenix and Edmonton at the draft table.
Hall for Ekman-Larsson swap 1st's. Only because they want Tkachuk in Phoenix and Edmonton takes Brown. |

I want to play Devil's advocate here for a second, what if Lucic is the target ? I am not personally in favor of the move but I would sure be interested to see what the twins could do when no one on the ice would be willing to go after them physically. Say what you will about Lucic but he does get a very wide berth and other teams and players do have a healthy fear of him. Just a thought any one else even a bit curious how that would look? |

i still say feck those consensus draft rankings, there will be some surprises after the first 3 picks, if not after the first 2. |

perhaps. there always are some surprises so fingers crossed. i just think that if cbj doesn't want puljarjavi they will trade down with someone who does want him. i don't see him dropping too far but one can dream. |

what the team is needing. Do they think a D is as good as a F and if they need it or not. Edmonton needs D, Buffalo is looking for a D, Montreal a C. Van a D, W, C only thing they got is goalie depth now. |

Why would a Finnish GM pass on Pulj? For one thing he is Finnish, but more importantly he is extremely gifted. Big, fast, good shot, and a proven performer playing in a mens league and in the world juniors. I would be very surprised if he drops. If Columbus truly is set on a center than they would trade down with Van. We all know how infrequent top 5 picks are traded so I expect there won't any suspense until Benning picks. |

i wouldn't even think that goalie is a position of depth for the team as it now stands. they have 2 ufa bound goalies and a very promising prospect. i think they are set currently and for the near to mid term future but 1 or 2 more prospects are needed.
not a demko type but 1 or more garteig types would be nice. having some goalies on the long term track would be nice. not necessarily starters but guys who would be looking to break into the league as backups in 4-6 years.
but as you point out that's a back burner issue considering the team's real needs. |

yeah that's my thinking as well.
i guess you didn't pick up my sentiments that it is more wishful thinking than anything else. the only thing going for us is the fact that the canucks have always had good luck. |

That depends, if they are targeting Dubois, they won't trade down further than 5OA as he won't slip to 6 unless EDM takes a defender. I'd hope Benning knows this and would not give up much to move to top 3 to ensure JP. |

No (frank)ing way anybody is stupid enough to to give him 7*7
5*6 - CanuckDon
We will see but "top tier" UFA's get paid big regardless of whether they are worth it.
Parise/Suter 7.5 x 13
Spezza got 7.5 x 4
Campbell 7+ x 8
Stastny 7 x 4
Vanek 6.5 x 3

Assuming that Hutton and Virtanen's stint in Utica doesn't count and I haven't read anything about a minumum games played for those professional seasons.
The players exposed must of played 70 over 2 season or 40 in the season prior.
Hutton played 4 games in the regular season but Jake only suited up for games during the playoffs.
Edit.
I believe that Nylander who played only 37 games in is not exempt. |

Well Currently they have 2 pretty good goalies in the NHL. Demko showed a lot of promise in College. Could be the future for 10 years if he pans out. Also Garteig was a very sought after goalie out of College. UFa bound or not, they are still under contract with the team as of right now. |

Minnesota future is ruined because of three of those signings. Campbell was awhile ago. Stastny had a reasonable term. I could see 3 years at $7MM for Lucic but this is his last chance to cash out and he won't accept a term that short.
$7MM per 7 years...I can't imagine that happening especially with so many teams screwed with untradeable contracts at the moment. We saw a new approach at the trade deadline where GM's were reluctant to make moves and I think we will see a similar pattern this summer where GM's are reluctant to offer term. |

They gave out contracts for years, expecting that the cap would increase 5 million plus every season.
Contracts are out of hand for 3-4 D. 5+ a season.
6 Million for a guy who averages 50 points a season.

Certain posters will freak out no matter who Benning selects. I am trying to log their preferred selections so I can cross reference post draft. Ie. even if their "dream prospect" is chosen they will still freak out. I am keeping notes |

Leafs are fine though as they have very few guys to protect ...all their prospects are basically exempt
I thought there was something with ELC players being exempt too ?
Virtanen played 10 games ...what's the magic number 9, 10, 11 ?

There lies the problem with most contracts. The player is near 30 and starting to decline in a couple of years but are expected to be paid even when they are worth nothing. |
