So my guess as to who we protect:
Crosby
Malkin
Kessel
Hornqvist
Hagelin
Bonino
Best one out of Sheary, Rust, Wilson.
Letang
Maatta
Dumoulin
Murray
Who we expose & meet the Min player requirement:
Fehr
One of Rust, Kuhnhackl, Or Wilson if they get atleast 30 NHL games. Bennett if signed for 2 years, & gets at least 40 games.
Lovejoy, or Shultz if signed for at least 2 years
Fleury if allowed and still own the team, or Vet Back up if signed for 2 years. |

Bones won't need protected, hes an UFA that offseason. Horny, hell, on the last year of his deal... could leave him up if the young players look good enough. Defense I am all for protecting those three.
But I'd like to think we'll obtain a stud LW before this expansion draft occurs that needs protecting. |

That should mean that even if he's banged up, he should be able to do some, if not most of what he had planned this offseason in Pittsburgh for his durability training.
Good healthy offseason for Malkin.
Good healthy offseason for Maatta.
Look the F out next year if we're actually healthy |

Oh and since I missed this by a bit... HOLY OVERPAYMENT FOR YANDLE... dude is not worth that kind of money, looked so damn mediocre against us the last two years. |

Thought the same thing. Defense is an easy pick. Agree with your forwards as well. Looking like worst case scenario they lose a replaceable 3rd liner. Wonder if this plays in the players minds at all...wanting to earn protection
|
|
|
|
why? shultz has proven nothing AT ALL yet to earn more than 2.5 mil. yandle is a good defenemen and je got to cash in. schultz got to cash in with the oilers. he won't get a contract that is higher than the one he had in atleast like 3 or 4 years - martox
Teams are obviously putting high value into puck moving dmen. I have no doubt that a team like the Rangers who just lost a few guys, would be willing to spend some extra cash to get a puck moving guy. If you look at the list of defense free agents, the only decent offensive dmen are Russell and Schultz available. |

I don't consider them comparable Yandle to Goligosky is a comparison... but yes and no. Letang being hurt for most years, except last, has made it look questionable. When healthy, without a doubt good. |

Soooo.. rumor has it the asking price for Yakupov is a late 2nd... early 3rd? Pens just happen to have 2 seconds eh...

I mean, yeah, given those 2 contracts were signed days apart, they are much more comparable but the cap hit is still the cap hit regardless of when the deal was signed in my eyes. |

I wouldn't trade from our pedestrian defensive depth, but we have cap space to play around with this season and Yak's only under contract for one season. I'd take the flyer if he's really that cheap. Chances are Yakupov is better than anyone we get with the 2nd. If he sucks just let him walk. If he's questionable sign him and expose him. Something tells me he's not actually that cheap though. |

Well I see zero reason to throw in Cole unless you just want a cap dump. We'd still be shakey D wise, but sure, I'd gladly give up the last pick in the 2nd round to grab Malkin a winger.
Hell, lets give them Bennett and a third for Yak. Both teams gets the other's troubled winger |

Asking price is a 2nd, nothing more and nothing less, 100% throw in Bennett. Clears 800k of cap space that isn't being put to good use that can go to the 2.5 mil of questionable use |

Yep... Bennett gets to be a minor cap dump to take on Yak. However that link said a 2nd OR a 3rd.
If for some odd ass reason Edmonton sees even the most MINOR value in Beau, they'd take a 3rd instead of the last pick in the 2nd. |
