How are we going to get defensive depth with the 1.8 mil of cap space we'd have if we don't move Fleury is the far more pertinent question.
- Victoro311

Why do you keep moaning about defensive depth?

How many teams have a better 3rd pairing than Cole/Pouliot. I definitely want to add a defenseman, but that's about as typical of a 3rd pair you will find anywhere in the league. We do have an issue of lacking NHL ready fill-in prospects in wbs. But as far as the bottom 2 guys we are fairly typical. This blogger has us 6.5 million under the gap. fanger has us listed with 14 forwards, 2 goalies, 6 defenseman with I believe 2.4 under the cap. (Not sure I'm interpreting that right).

But we can definitely field a full roster and add a bargain vet 7 D and have excess cap.

Kane was the original Johnny Football. Kane never stopped being a (frank) up. Its just that Kane's actually is good at the sport he played so he never spiraled into a self destructive depression. No instead he gets to happily do his thing in the offseason without media scorn because he'll come back in October and be PPG.

Still can't believe some Hawks fans were throwing Kane around for the Masterton because he came back from rape allegations and had a career year... Despicable.

Johnny football has family money that rivals what Kane will make from hockey after tax. Granted not the biggest fan of going his route, but if saw the writing on the wall that he wasn't making the NFL then becoming a guy known for partying is about what you would expect.

It's heartwarming to know that we just automatically assume lockout whenever the CBA is up

Moaning? Because its a very relevant issue. On average every year how many defensemen deep do we go? This year we went through? This year we had to go through 9, one of which was lost to waivers and another had to be acquired at the deadline. Last year we went through a (frank) ton to the point we saw Taylor Chorney in the playoffs. The year before that we went through just as many, as at some point Dumoulin (that year's version of him), Despres, and Samuelson were all called up.

We can't go to war with just 7 defensemen. All NHL teams who call themselves competitors need to be about 9 defensemen deep. 7 legit NHLers and at least two guys that can handle call up duty and not drown. We don't have call ups, so we need to find a way to fit 8 NHL defensemen under the cap, sign Kevin Porter's defensive counterpart for WBS, and hope Bengtsson is the real deal.

I haven't given up on Pouliot yet, so I don't mind that 3rd pairing. Offensive defenseman can take a little longer to develop. But a top 4 injury would cripple our Cup chances. I would like to see a little more space for a 5D, but it won't be hard to get as they don't need much.

Those are not primarily cap issues. Its about stocking WBS with Taylor chorney types. Equivalent of Dustin Jeffery type defenseman Super minor leaguers. We should be able to add a 7D for around a million. Adding a 4/5D I'm not seeing anything on the market besides Lovejoy/Schultz that I'd want to sign. Not sure on cap we might have the room now, but probably precludes a significant forward add.

Rutherford knows what he is doing. He's not going to panick and make a bad Fleury trade.

You continue to have high hopes for DP. I'm not confident in him at all based on the reports. At some point, maybe I will if he gets off his ass and works. I would rather have the Cole/Lovejoy pairing again to be honest. We need Defensive depth. We have little in the organization.

An early second round pick, or two late second round picks isn't a bad trade for Fleury. Asking for the 6th overall pick for MAF isn't exactly knowing what he is doing IMO.

He was the only one of the three that should have been a finalist based on his defense. The other two got in on offensive stats only. I'm glad Karlsson or Burns didn't win it because they wouldn't have deserved it.

Um...why is there an awards show to begin with and why do people watch it? No other sport has one and the NHL brings out huge celebrities like Chaka Khan to perform live.....Whole thing is lame.

Anyone else find it hysterical that a fired coach finished ahead of Sullivan for the Jack?

And had an outstanding record. He still came in fifth, you know, so people were voting for him.

oh no doubt he was the best but still it would be kinda weak to reward a coach that coaches a half season.
