PLEASE BUFFALO, be sensible when it comes to Stamkos!! Here is my reasoning:
1) The $12 mil figure most likely came from the "Stamkos Camp"
2) Toews Captained his team to 3 Cups, makes $10.5 Mil
3) Stamkos may be an elite player for the next 1-3 years, but he will start rapidly declining
4) BLOOD CLOT!!!
5) We all remember the year Briere went to Philly and signed a huge long term deal, as did Gomez. Those worked out for the first couple years, however, the longevity severely handcuffed the respective teams.
6) If he get's a longterm $12 mil per year deal and Jack or Sam out score him, they are going to want over $12 mil.
7) LET HIM GO TO TORONTO, although I heard a very reliable source say he will end up in LA.
8) If he signs with Toronto, they make playoffs, more league revenue, the Cap goes up next year.
Here is what I would offer Stamkos, $9 mil per year, plus $1 mill if Sabres make the playoffs, $1 Mil if he finishes the year in the top 5 scoring, and $1 mil if Sabres win the Cup. He would agree to play Wing. This deal would only be 2 or 3 years. If he says no, make a 5 year deal to Okposo. |

Yeah. I'm sure he'd be all over playing wing on a 3 year contract.

How about the Sabres trade for Callahan with $1M retained by Tampa?

My take on Stamkos.
We were asked to endure "SUFFERING" for a few years. We did. AND WE DID!!! I don't want to hear or have any discussions about Cap, term, salary or anything else. Heres what I want....I WANT TO WIN....I WANNA BE CHICAGO OR THE KINGS...I don't care AT ALL about our cap in 3-4 year when 55, 15 and 23 all need to be paid. I JUST WANT TO WIN...pay EVERYONE whatever they want..win 3 cups and then gut it for all I care. ITS BEEN TEN YEARS since we mattered...m not willing to wait another 5 for ANY reason.
1. you have 15
2. you have 55
3. you have 23
4. you have a FILTHY RICH OWNER...
WIN NOW....PERIOD!! |

I hope the Sabres sign Stamkos. I suspect he's never been the same player since he broke his leg. If not, I suspect Stamkos will get the "Babcock treatment" on this blog
I also hope the Sabres sign Vesy. He and Eichel can get bunk beds and walk hand in hand along the lovely Buffalo Waterfront.
I also suspect they'll trade a bunch of spare parts and a bag of GMTM's pixie dust for Edmonton's #4 then select Tkachuk. Did you know Tkachuk and Eichel are BFF's too?
It is not if GMTM makes another best trade in the draft history of all pro sports, it is HOW many GMTM will make. Let's be real for a minute. O'Reilly had one decent year. Traded away two young, former first rounds plus a first rounder. It's a little too early to be declaring victory on that one
Its also a little early to be planning the Stanley Cup route with Eichel, Risto and Sam. They have not done a darn thing in this league yet. They have potential, but still too early

Not sure how that can happen. Stammer, Vesy, Okposo, Tkchuk, Fowler and now Lucic and only Ennis, Pysyk and a few low end premium picks going out. I know there is a lot of money in Pelugaville now, but there is such a thing called the salary cap. But then again, if there is one GM who could pull this off, it is GMTM |

Don't forget that Girgensons could be shipped out as well, but only if Pysyk & Ennis alone don't get #4 (which they easily should in my opinion). |

He's had 5 consecutive years of 55+ point hockey (pro-rated for the lockout season, but he's only had "1 decent year". Always in the upper echelon for FO %. Above average in the D zone, a workout junky, and outside of the coffee shop incident, has been a pretty good example for the young kids (working with Reinhart after practice). I would say that he's had more than "one decent season." But keep telling us how much all of our players suck compared to the holy grail of the hockey universe. But I remember posting with you before. You don't look at facts. You just make blanket statements that discredit yourself and cannot make an intelligent hockey discussion. You belong on Garth's Blog. Stay here. |
