Let Calgary think about it for a minute. Bishop is soon to be an FA and will be looking for 7-8 mill and is prone to bizarre injuries at inopprtune times. When both sides come back down to earth they can make a deal and there's always Dallas if not. 1 year of Niemi isn't going to kill us that much.
Here is a fun tool to help you feel better about the expansion draft http://www.generalfanager.com/teams/expansion
You can easily guess who each team will protect and you can see who you would take if your were LV.

We can't wait that long. Murray will be taken in expansion if we do.

The draft would be after next season? why couldn't you wait?? Does everyone assume that Murray would go over a guy like Mason? A lot can happen in a year

I think Calgary would be silly to give up anything in the first two rounds...they are bidding against themselves it looks like

If I'm treliving I wait til Saturday and than call up Rutherford and Stevie Y and see which deal I like the most

They have to take 3 goalies. If we keep Fleury and get stuck with him, I'd be thoroughly shocked if there were three goalies available more attractive than Murr.

It'd be two years of Niemi. I wouldn't buy him out if we got him unless it was an absolute necessity at the risk of losing Dumoulin, who I still think won't get paid as much as most people think he will.

Not to sound like a homer but fleury being signed a few more years while our prospect develops and he's affordable would tip the scale in his favor if I were Calgary. Bishop needing a new deal is going to cost you more then 5.75

his trades with anaheim has been great (though losing depres still stings a tiny bit) and the kessel trade was a steal so don't know what you are talking about

Calgary would be stupid to not look at all options. They should also be enquiring about Halak.

They will still have salary cap and team budgeting... you take a true number one and then you look at 2 goalies that will cost next to nothing. They have to build, I bet they don't spend to the cap their first year in the league. This isn't a fantasy hockey draft like some people are treating it.

There is no way to know if MAF is more talented than Andersen & it is meaningless regardless. Andersen is just starting his career, he is 5 years younger than Fleury. MAF has lots of life left & a decent contract but Pittsburgh has 2 problems. The goalie market is drying up fast & they are already over the anticipated cap ceiling of 72.8 million. That gives them virtually no leverage in negotiations.

Calgary isn't giving them the 6th overall pick. That's a non starter. Calgary also has other options. They could sign Reimer, I look hard at giving Enroth a shot, 1 or 2 years at peanuts; say around 1.5 to 2 mil per, to see if he's capable, if not I readdress as the season progresses. Numerous teams have stop gaps available & with so few teams & the development pipeline growing exponentially in the US there are more than enough goalies to go around.

There are numerous options available to calgary or other teams, Bishop, Niemi, Lehtonen, Howard, Halak, Elliot, Pavelic etc that all can potentially be had & could stop gap until Gillies is ready in Calgary.

People have been saying our window has been closing is is closed for years and it's still wide open. It's Rutherfords job to get as much as he can for a good asset. He's not just going to give MAF to Calgary and the Flames are literally a goaltender away from being a playoff team. Everyone knew Bishop, MAF, and Anderson were the 3 best goalies on the market and everyone knew the youngest was going to Toronto. All 3 have very different pluses and minuses. It's up to the team trading for them to decide which best suits what they are looking for. But I guarantee the Lightning want more for Bishop than Pittsburgh does for MAF and Bishop is going to eat a huge hole in their cap whereas MAF has a more cap friendly deal.

And Murray would be a RFA by the time of draft. He's gonna be pretty cheap. Look at the bridge deals Price and Holtby got. He's young, showed a lot of promise, still has more development to do to reach his ultimate ceiling, and is cost controlled. 90% chance he's taken.

The problem is that outside of Pittsburgh MAF's image is not that great. He has always been looked upon as a good not great goaltender. But there a many of those guys in this league. All those wins with a team that has firepower and starpower is really not that impressive. His stats are middle of the road as far a goalies are concerned. That is why there has been no real rush to acquire him. Pittsburgh fans have a different view of him. To them he is Mr. Beloved. Truth be told he is just an average NHL goaltender playing on a very good team for a long time. Switch him and Carey Price and there is no telling how many Cups would have been won in Pittsburgh
He would have folded like a cheap suit with the pressure of being a goalie for Montreal

Pittsburgh has leverage....they can keep him. He isn't a must move. I know I know the expansion draft, he can be traded before and up to February '17.....or if the savior in Murray falls to earth Fleury can remain with the Pens to be starter.

IMO, a GM can't let another GM take advantage like that. Every other GM will be lining up to fleece you if you let it happen once.
