You can protect 4 dmen.

so we would protect
4 fowards - Malkin, Crosby, Kessel, probably Hagelin
4 dmen - Letang, Maata, dumo, Brodie
1 goalie - Fleury

Lose Horn in expansion most likely or wilson/Pouliot

- sditulli

Hornqvist will only have one more year of term by the time expansion roles around and hopefully Sprong will be ready. If we play our cards right, Hornqvist hopefully will be the guy that Vegas takes from us.

I'm little bad at math, but isn't 4 defenseman + 4 forwards = 8 skaters

So instead of dying, the Malkin to Chicago rumor is gaining steam..............
- cap1681

I tried to come up with something just for poops and giggles with this ludicrous idea and still cant. Kane and or Toews wouldnt make any sense for either team.

Anisimov, Panarin, Shaw/Pokka at minimum need to come back to even consider it.

Even then, part of me couldn't live with the centerpiece of a Malkin deal being a FA out of Russia who was free to acquire, no matter how good he is haha.

For me it starts at Panarin, Krüger, Anisimov, and a 1st. That would be a backasswards move for the Hawks so I don't see it.

According to Hawk fans, the whole reason Malkin wants to go to Chicago is to play with Panarin...

(frank) Shaw. He's gonna be the new Bickell. He's gonna get 3 mil +.

Then simply no. I don't want Toews. Hawks won't trade Kane. Seabrook will be a bad contract by the end of it. And everything else the Hawks have just isn't enticing as a center piece.

so honest question and it is probably a silly answer but what if you convert a defensemen into a forward on paper but ofc don't play him as that. can you protect said defensemen as a forward?
- martox

Interesting question actually...like if Pouliot has a great year and looks like a stud, and we really wanted to protect him, we could say he is a forward. Might be some rules about minutes played at a certain position.

Hey Scuderi played as a Left Wing!

35th and Shink is decent. Well under fair market value for Fleury but close given the constraints around the deal.

I would double check with remaining teams who might be interested as that offer doesn't blow me away but could live with that deal.

It's a fine line tho ...you can argue both sides and there's merit :

Flames haven't had a legit 1 guy since kipper ...they need a goalie ...flower could get them into the playoffs and win a round maybe ...his contract is very cap friendly

But

Fleury also just lost his starters job, Pitt has to trade him before the expansion draft, he isn't the only goalie possibility for the flames

I can see Pitt wanting more than a 2nd a bad a prospect but I can also see cgy less willing to give up that package

For that Calgary dude...back to the 35th + Shinkaruk...would you rather trade Shinkaruk or Kylington in that deal?

I hate that argument. Flower losing his starting job has no impact on how good he is or his value. You could say Malkin 'lost' the number 1 center job to Crosby....doesn't affect his value in other way. Plus he was hurt and the coach had 75 reasons to not put him in cold in the middle of the playoffs.

The other stuff has merit.

Forgot he was an RFA. No I don't see any deal with the Hawks no matter how hard I try.

Wow this really is getting around everywhere...

I'd still lean towards offering shink ...he is skilled but I think D prospects are more valuable than small forwards ...and I'm hoping at lest one of kylington, Andersson, or Hickey become top 4 D

Ok sorry I won't say he lost it ...but he is no longer your starter ...I'm just saying what the flames side would use as bargaining

Honestly if fleury goes to cgy and with Murray being young and not playing a full year yet it wouldn't surprise me if he had a better year than Murray next season...I have belief that flower is still good don't get me wrong

UMMMMMMMMMMM......I would have to say Kylington.....simply because the Flames have so many good D prospects. Nothing against the kid. He looks great so far.

No Callahan for team USA this summer, if I am Kessel and they call, I tell them I am too busy eating hot dogs, good luck scoring in the tourney f faces.

Not sure if it's been said already but I'm not reading 300+ comments!!

Worst case scenario for Flower, we lose him for zero to Vegas?? So we free up a whole lot of cap space for zero - no bad contracts taken back? That's not the most ideal scenario but at the same time it's not that bad a thing in my mind.

So if the cap allows, Flower starts in a Pens uniform (which is what I've been saying all along), we get to see Murray develop at his own pace having an over excellent back-up in Flower. Then through the course of the season the worst case scenario is realised or a contender has a goalie go down & we get lots & lots (probably picks) for Flower (or Murray depending on how they are both going).

Or, JR trades Flower this afternoon!(just not for the #6.).

Why are people shocked we want the 6th overall? It's a negotiation you start high as possible

Injuries happen... If this trade doesn't work for Calgary we will find another team during the season

So... if you havn't attempted to read the possible Expansion draft rules (which you obviously didn't), we mostly likely cannot just lose Flower to Vegas. Due to his NMC, he would have to be protected.
