Can't run a franchise with that mentality though. That's what Darcy did and look how that turned out for us.
- HonkFortheGoose

Murray and Darcy are on two opposite spectrums though. IMO it's somewhere in the middle that I think we are missing out on from a GM standpoint.

I'd rather have Murray for the record

11 back to back game nights... Looks like most of them are in the 2nd half of the year after New years

Do we know where that ranks among others in the NHL? Typically we have in the most category.

Last 10 game stretch will be important

It's funny that you said that, because I knew that it would be your response. And I very much agree. If I have to take the lesser of two evils though, I'm going for Murray as well.

They may have it on Sabres.com, but usually WGR has that type of stuff in the audio vault that you can at least listen to.

Vesey discussion flow-chart:

Pre-trade: Vesey is a beautiful hockey apple just sitting there on that low branch
Trade: Vesey will never sign in Buffalo
(Signs in Buffalo): Vesey is totally overrated, spoiled, and will be a career AHL'er
(Signs in X city): I can't believe we got this young superstar in the making for nothing

About right?

- nfph

Take out the name Vesey, and all references to Buffalo. What you have left pretty much covers what every fan base thinks about every player they have a chance to sign.

I think most, if not all, Sabres fans in here can agree that the Vesey trade was a smart move, odds wise. As discussed previously, the odds of a 3rd rounder becoming anything more than a bottom 6 player is considerably lower than that of signing a player when you have exclusive rights to negotiate with him for another two months. This wasn't a gamble. This is pure analytics, and playing the numbers. I personally appreciate that move.

In my opinion, the gamble is the perception of how it looks if the move fails. But even that can be broken down further:

Does this make the organization, namely GMTM, look incompetent for 'wasting' a draft pick? I don't think so, as they simply have too many picks to sign anyway. Picks were going to have to be packaged and moved, otherwise they were wasted.

Does this make Eichel look bad? I don't think so either. Eichel is still Eichel. He put up a strong effort but in the end, Vesey stuck to his guns. This should never be about Eichel failing to recruit.

Does this make the city look bad? Again, no. It is blatantly obvious that the city of Buffalo as a hockey market is very strong and prospering.

I think what this comes down to is Vesey. IF he doesn't choose to come to Buffalo, with all that the city and the organization has to offer, he comes off as looking difficult to work with and perhaps even entitled. This appears to be the image he created for himself back in Nashville and at the deadline and it would only get reinforced if he skipped out on two teams.

Perhaps Murray has an inkling or even a certainty that he can get it done and that Vesey will choose to sign here. I 100% believe that there is tampering going on, but it would appear that tampering usually always happens, you just have to make it look like all discussions were handled legally. This is what both parties are doing.

Apologies if this is a little run-on and rambly, but after reading all of this and doing my own research and formulating my own opinions, I felt this had to be written out.

....and now I feel like those annoying people on facebook who spill their guts in their statuses just for attention. Haha that was not my intent.

If we sign Vesey, and make a deal for a decent D man, it would be hard to complain about the roster going forward.

if they can't sign him in the next 5 weeks, move him to the leafs or bruins for a pick in 2017

Calgary is saying that the asking price for MAF is a 1st round pick.

YIKES. Good luck getting that as how most teams that need a goalie are in the bottom 10. Not giving that up for him unless you are a team that has two perhaps.
