Leafs fans legitimately believe they're going to get Stamkos. I just don't see it.

Stamkos has spent his entire career up until recently on a team building through youth. The Lightning are finally contenders the last 2 years and he got a taste of that. The leafs have some talented prospects coming up but signing with Toronto is like the Lightning team of 5-6 years ago.

Gotta imagine Stammer goes to a team ready to compete immediately.

Still seems like it'll take 4 or 5 years for the youth on that team to mature to the point of contending. He was in Tampa for that long being patient. Why would he go back to that?

You never know in sports. Just cause it seems they are that far away doesn't mean they really are. If Stamkos was to sign I am sure that would push the button to speed up the rebuild a bit with other signings and trades
