I’m so jaded from past goalie acquisitions….i’m cautiously optimistic.
For better or worse, we got our goalie. - Tumbleweed
It's different from Toskala and Bernier though. Both were backups. Andersen was the #1 guy for the past 2 years. |

Also Horton cap kicks in when we're at the limit, so technically we can go ~5M over. - gravyface
Christ the Clarkson trade was genius cap circumvention. I love when the leafs use their money for evil. |

Frederik Andersen says he's been working out in the same California gym as Joffrey Lupul.

If we need him gone to fit Stammer, I don't care what we get back. |

strong possibility now after getting andersen. proving to him that they do intend to contend next year. smart move to get it done before free agency opens up as well. |

1A/B, but yeah, and he has playoff numbers that are respectable to good.
Not a lot of games, but enough that they seem to know what they're getting. I'm really happy with it.
I thought we'd settle on a M.A. Fleury with some salary going back (maybe Bozak/Bernier), but this is a better move long-term and more of a sure-thing than drafting an 18-year unknown (although they may still do that in the later rounds). |

Agreed: I've been hoping and stating that Andersen should be the target for over a month. Surprised that any Leaf fans are not ecstatic about this move. Every team needing a number one goalie was in on this for sure and with reason. - winsix
Lots of people thought the same things about Bernier, Toskala, and Raycroft to a lesser extent. Im not going to be sold until we see a season with him in net, seems like playing in TO isnt the most comfortable place for goalies. Of the "available" names out there Andersen is prbably the most attractive, I have the highest of hopes though. |

This makes the Lehner "overpayment" not look like such an overpayment.
NO IT DOES NOT !!!! Andersen - two regular seasons worth (114 games started)
GAA = .233 SV % 9.18
twenty eight palyoff starts
GAA = 2.34 SV % .916
Yes on a good team, but leafs are goooood now as well .....Lehner = NYET!! NAAH!!!

They'll still draft a top goalie this summer. It just gives them lots of options. Andersson now, Sparks or Bibeau maybe 3 or 4 years down the road if they can pull it together, or the kid drafted this summer.
More options the better! |
