I think the point was to find someone who can stop pucks now so that your young guys don't have to deal with the constant deflating goals that's a guy like Bernier will always give up. He's not a top 10 goalie but he's also not Bernier.

Honestly, it's probably not that difficult to develop a model for projecting goalie success. It just takes a lot of time and patience, some creativity, and a constant balancing act between multicollinearity and omitted variable bias as you plug in any stats you can get your hands on.
