lupul and bozak mainly. - Tumbleweed
Lupul, Michalek, Bozak, Laich, Greening and Bernier = That's about 25 million and none of those guys will be Leafs by this time next year. |

and thats fine.. nobody says they are.
Why does it have to be 100% correct? - senstroll
Ahh see, that's the thing.
For people like you, they don't have to be 100%.
For some analytics proponents, the entire foundation and starting point for every debate and discussion they have is that analytics are 100% accurate and predictive and everything else is just noise and easily explained away.
and then they somehow conclude that all us non-believers are the close-minded ones.

i'm questioning whether a younger goalie like subban would have been better to build with. - Tumbleweed
If they want him they can still get him. Hes not NHL ready or proven IMO. |

I'm down with the trade.
I'm just conscious of the fact that Andersen's save% to date is pretty average ..and about the same as Reimer and Bernier over the past 3-4 years.
I'm hoping for the best but I was kind of advocating trading some lower picks for a guy like Pickard or Subban who wouldn't have required a big fat contract right away.
Again though, it's been handed to Freddy and I hope he steals the show. - The Law
Both options come with more risk relative to what the Leafs have now...they can afford a bit of an overpayment
I dont think hes much better than Reimer, if at all...but it might not be necessary to be better than Reimier |

I agree. Some people just use it way too much. The leafs have a lot of anylitcis guys in managment now but they are smart enough to look past it when the numbers say something completely ridiculous . - Santo_44

Andersen gives them the stopgap they need for the next 5 years that they need to draft and develop some homegrown talent. He's more of a sure thing than any young goalie that might be available at this point in time. This deal makes it probable that they won't be on fire for the next couple of years while the young kids develop. |

i suspect they draft a goalie. Most goalies are probably 5 years away for the 2016 class. |

Raycroft was in the Italian league within four years of the Leafs buying him out in 2008. Toskala struggled through two dozen games in Finland before burning his equipment in a drunken fit and never playing hockey again.

Some more perspective.
Andersen, at 5 milly, is the 18th highest paid 'tender in the league. Sounds about right to me. - The Law
Right now. 5 years from now he'll be much lower. |

Toronto tends to eat up goalies. We’ll see if he has the metal to deal with.
I’m hopeful that with babcock on board, Andersen will be put in a better position to succeed than some of the past goalies.
It’s very much wait and see for me.

We don't...but given some of the moves they've made they allow themselves to look past anylitcis when they should. It's a great reference but that's all it is. Some people and writers think it's the be all and end all and whatever they say is true. |

He's unproven was the point I was making.
I have no issue with the money or the cap hit, 5 years was too long though. |
