Wonder if the Leafs try to sign Jeff Zatkoff G Left PIT 28 $600,000 2 years UFAUFA as their backup next season. - zazzle
JF Berube could be a decent and very inexpensive option too. |

I think he is overrated slightly, but he was the best out of the younger/RFA goalies. It was an overpayment on the trade and the contract, but the Leafs have the assets to do it and not suffer as much - YuenglingJagr
Could be. Could also be the steal of the century with all due respect to Michael Pachla. |

The price wasn't "bad" - although I thought it might be cheaper b/c there were really only the Leafs and Flames hunting for goalies. The bigger question is will Andersen be a 5 million dollar goalie. None of us know ...but, over the last 3-4 years he's been pretty comparable (Save%) to these guys we've come to hate. - The Law
Theres not even a duo on that list that could patch together what we got in Arn Andy. Salary or skill wise.
The picks werent even ours! (or so im told havent fact checked) |

If he's a free asset and is available for next to nothing (~950K), you take him regardless of where he ends up on the depth chart. Worst case you let him walk as a UFA. Basically a win/win signing. - gravyface
or you could play him on the top line with your star player even though he shouldn't be there, and then sign him for 4.2M

I must be missing something here...unless he turns into Carey Price all of the sudden...I dont see how he is a steal in any century |

The price was about the same as what SJ paid for Jones. Jones had 34 games of NHL experience and was 25 yrs old. Andersen has 125 gp and is 26. The price is right.
Big Freddy's play will determine whether Lou committed to the right guy. |

The onus will be for mgmt to make Toronto a safe place to play for all players including goalies, which means icing a team that won't give up 30+ shots per game. - TheMussel
and cutting down on shots from center and from the oppositions blue line... and those pesky bouncers off the end boards. |

Flyer's fans commenting on goaltending? really?
that's about as credible as Canucks fans doing the same or Oilers fans talking about team "drafting strategy" and "talent evaluation".
clearly.... what the Leafs should have done was sign Bryz for 9 years |

What I hate is the criticism of good old +/- as being a team stat.
But when the entire LA Kings team has great Corsi / Fenwick, there is no "team" or "coaching" component to that? - Aetherial
I agree. Some people just use it way too much. The leafs have a lot of anylitcis guys in managment now but they are smart enough to look past it when the numbers say something completely ridiculous . |

"Steal of the century" was a facetious shot at some hyperbole found elsewhere on this site.
He doesn't need to become Carrie Price for this to be a fantastic deal. Just a solid #1. |

from last years playoffs:
The Ducks went with John Gibson in Games 1 and 2 and found themselves in a 2-0 hole when they travelled to Nashville. Andersen then got the net and has stopped 57 of 58 shots in garnering two wins and getting the Ducks back in the series. Andersen is slated to be an RFA at the end of the season and don't be surprised if he is elsewhere in 2016-17 as the Ducks seem to like Gibson more. Andersen will give some team great goaltending as he deserves to be a number one goalie in the NHL. - Lucas.Neilson
Well he was great for 2 games! Give him a dumptruck of money! |

I dont think either pick was ours.
Theres also no reason they cant draft a goalie as well.
