I like using anylitcis as a reference but when they tell you Franson is the best player in the NHL and the NJ Devils are one of the best teams then you know they aren't always right.
- Santo_44

What I hate is the criticism of good old +/- as being a team stat.

But when the entire LA Kings team has great Corsi / Fenwick, there is no "team" or "coaching" component to that?

Only time will tell. Taking a calculated risk like this is better than just drafting an 18 year old and hoping he makes something of himself in 4-5 years.

That and they didn't have to empty the cupboards to do it like they did in years past.

- 1979AD

I dont think either pick was ours.

Theres also no reason they cant draft a goalie as well.

TMLfans love hysterics. LOVE THEM.

The price was fair in acquiring possibly the best goalie available in a soft goalie market. There will be lots of goalies being tossed out there with the upcoming expansion draft looming. MAF, Crawford and Hillier. Reimer will probably sign in Calgary, and don't forget how much manure Detroit will have to swallow to move Howard's contract out. Leafs needed a goalie bad and beat every other team to the punch. I bet Burke popped a blood vessel when he heard about this trade. Lou's track record with goalies is not too bad.

First of all.. is Vesey really all that good? Is he worth pursuing and giving a top 6 role? I'm sure he's ready for the big stage, but does he improve our top 6?

also he'll probably sign in Buffalo or Boston.. Seems like he wants to play with Eichel. Its not that easy to tell your friend (Jack) that the team he is stuck with isn't good enough for him.

If the Leafs do get him, does he take up a protection spot for the expansion draft?

- Arctic_AARDVARK

I don't think so?

Who knows if he is that good. A lot of people here, me included, weren't really buying into the hype 2 months ago... the last time there was any real discussion about him.

His tie immediately unknotted itself and the top 2 buttons of his shirt popped off.

Vollman is a toolbox who thinks he is an analytics guru. His predictions for the 4 top contending teams in 2016 were in this order: LA, Dallas, Chicago and Washington. Not one of those teams were in the finals. He had the opportunity pick 4 teams of 16, two were eliminated in the first round, the other two in the second round. He doesn't make many predictions though, he is so poop at it, it would be bad for business. Andersen is a very good goalie who will be an elite goalie as a Leaf.

Wow ..what a crazy prediction

that's how it is with goalies, any goalie. Andersen is quite established and Ducks fans are worried they gave up the wrong goalie.

Everyone needs to start spelling his name right. It's andersen, not Anderson, who is the sens goalie.

Andersen will make a fine #1. He has had that spot with anahiem before and did well with it. I watched a lot of andersen games this year since I had him on my fantasy and we will be more than happy with him. Goalies need to be big, and athletic, which are 2 things that andersen possess.

I would like for the leafs to add another top 4 defenseman and this team will look like they are ready to start pushing for a playoff spot. Especially if Stamkos comes as well.

6'4 goalie with upside signed for 5 years/5m through his prime. This is could work out well. And it could not.
- 1979AD

I think he is overrated slightly, but he was the best out of the younger/RFA goalies. It was an overpayment on the trade and the contract, but the Leafs have the assets to do it and not suffer as much

If he's a free asset and is available for next to nothing (~950K), you take him regardless of where he ends up on the depth chart. Worst case you let him walk as a UFA. Basically a win/win signing.

The price wasn't "bad" - although I thought it might be cheaper b/c there were really only the Leafs and Flames hunting for goalies. The bigger question is will Andersen be a 5 million dollar goalie. None of us know ...but, over the last 3-4 years he's been pretty comparable (Save%) to these guys we've come to hate.

He took 3 from the west?

*** I predict one of the top 8 western conference teams will push through the adversity this year and reach the finals***
