So this pretty much takes us out of the Stamkos sweeps does it not? Not enough cap space left. Especially when the D needs some work and Lupul bozak Horton all likely to be on the books by ufa day.
- systemtool

If Bozak is moved for peanuts then it clears up enough space for them to sign stamkos at 9.2

Signing remaining rfas/ufas gets interesting at that point.

from last years playoffs:

The Ducks went with John Gibson in Games 1 and 2 and found themselves in a 2-0 hole when they travelled to Nashville. Andersen then got the net and has stopped 57 of 58 shots in garnering two wins and getting the Ducks back in the series. Andersen is slated to be an RFA at the end of the season and don't be surprised if he is elsewhere in 2016-17 as the Ducks seem to like Gibson more. Andersen will give some team great goaltending as he deserves to be a number one goalie in the NHL.

Can't imagine management would take themselves out of Stamkos sweepstakes for anything. We finally have clever management. There will be more moves to facilitate having enough cap to aggressively pursue Steve. Whether he signs here? Who knows

stop trying to trade JVR!!

the leafs have 2... count them... 2 legit top 6 forwards who aren't rookies

the leafs have zero depth in proven top 6 forward talent. LouLams wont trade those assets since the leafs are pathetically thin up front.

- Dozzer

Doz, gotta give to get. Would you seriously turn down the chance to get Lindholm if it was even remotely possible? Anaheim would take nothing less than JVR ++.

I highly doubt we are drafting our #1-2 Dman at #31 for the future, which I think we should be taking Gus or Parsons with that pick. We shored up an immediate need. Now it's time to draft for the future G as he won't be ready until Andersen's contract is up.

Ths would likely be the only scenario I would consider moving JVR from a realistic point of view.

If not Lindholm, we keep JVR and I am ok with that too.

I'm pretty sure you can go 10% over the cap during the off-season. They could probably sign Stamkos and then move those guys.

I also don't think the Ducks management are that great. They hired RC and haven't done anything to try and improve that offense over the last couple of years

quite possible you are right - just seems odd, they already have 2 guys in top 6 on his wing.
- Lucas.Neilson

vesey's whack job agents are the same ones that represent eichel

the sabres might be hoping eichel can woo him to sign

They tried just not very hard. Hagelin signing being one of them.

Vollman = aaszhole, Andersen save percentage in 2016 playoffs = .947 five games against Nashville. (Nashville not a soft opponent)
Note to all the idiots saying that Andersen was a backup - he started final game

- winsix

he played 5 games
in 28 playoff games he has a .916

people already getting defensive about him

Can you see the videos on tsn.ca? He basically said he is a slight improvement over Reimer. I do like Reimer as the kid had lots of fight in him, but Andersen is positionally better and arguably more athletic, and he also has size. I think Ferraro is WAY off the mark. He is only going by numbers....
- PhilMcCracken

Going to look at this on TSN (VPN on Opera works ).

I'm basing my comments on what I saw (limited number games and 6mins game highlights I must admit) - he's good but he's not in the category of:

Schneider (best there is imo)
Price
Rask
Holtby
Luongo
Bobrovskiy
Bishop
Crawford
Lundqvist

which are all consistent top goalies in league over past years.

Those are 9 guys; Andersen should be in next category with guys like Quick (very much overrated in my opinion), Fleury, Dubnyk and younger guys like Mrazek, Vasilevskiy, Gibson etc.

Leafs got what they need: a consistent top 10-20 starting goalie. Shouldn't expect him to be Dominic Hasek though.

(I'm sure Leafs tried to get Schneider from NJ, but price was apparently too high)

It's pretty funny, I've seen Andersen play a lot of games - the guy is huge, and has a ton of battle in him. It's simply a scenario where Anaheim has 2 great goalies and Andersen was going to cost them 5 million or so and they already have Gibson signed at a very reasonable contract. They need the money for some forward talent, it's a great trade for the Leafs and a good one for Anaheim stocking up a couple picks for something they really didn't need with only so much cap space available.

Great move by Lou.

- Lucas.Neilson

If Andersen lets in more goals than expected, I'm hoping people will use their brain and say we need work on the D core and not blame him.... Andersen has the potential to steal some games (unlike Bernier) but is nowhere near Carey Price(who is really?) quality.... Anyway, I think we have most of the forwards settled, especially if we can get Stamkos, we'll just need work on that D..

We'll have an 18 month long frenzied debate where we fling personal insults at each other depending on if you're in the Andersen camp or whoever the other guy will be.

Andersen is a product of Anaheim, he's gonna suck in Toronto.

The hate is just too funny to ignore.

- burn

The funniest thing I have read so far today is a "suck it Leafs" comment in Garf's thread.

Apparently, we should be all butt hurt because Buffalo gave up a pick for the right to some guy we haven't barely at all in the past couple months. Who knew.

Fowler is good but Lindholm is the man.
- Lucas.Neilson

Agree that Lindholm would be a solid addition. Ducks have lots of d-man and will have to expose at least Bieksa for the expansion draft. My first choice would be Larsson from NJ, a package including JVR for Larsson and Blackwood would be ideal. NJ continues to be the most offensively challenged team around and might be persuaded to move Larsson if they received some offensive help.

[quote=senstroll]Morning

Morning

Rob Vollman ā€@robvollmanNHL
That's a lot of $ for Andersen. Over 3 yrs, ranks:
13th by Quality Start Pct%
23rd by SV%
25th by Adj SV%
26th by home plate SV%
26th by xGS

Rob Vollman ā€@robvollmanNHL
Andersen's value inflated by goal support of 3.11 (3rd in NHL), and facing especially soft opponents.

Rob Vollman ā€@robvollmanNHL
I used to study the avg shooting pct% of teams goalies assigned to face. Only one goalie was facing noticeably easier opponents: Andersen.

oh

Vollman = aaszhole, Andersen save percentage in 2016 playoffs = .947 five games against Nashville. (Nashville not a soft opponent)

serious question - are ANY of those stats reflective of Winning percentage?

I dont even want Vesey. Too many guys we already have that are worth giving a shot to. Some with a much higher upside than Vesey.

I would certainly be ok with signing Stamkos, however if he signs elsewhere I think we will be just fine and continue our great rebuild! This poop is not gonna take 5 years as some have suggested.
