People are purposely ignoring this fact, I think. Andersen was a starter the last two seasons. He's a quality NHL starting goal tender. Not Vezina calibre, but better and more established either Bernier or Toskala when they were acquired. - BetterCallSaul
And people are drawing comparisons to previous goaltending moves by the Leafs that didn't work out to suggest that it must follow that this one won't. Or the fact that previous goalies came from California teams, as if that means anything. |

I find the frantic, desperate attempts to buzzkill the Leafs give me a warm fuzzy these days, and a chubby. - Zezel
I'm loving it. So ironic that he says about the leaf fans trumpeting how good they are in the summer, and yet here he is trumpeting nonsense about a trade that isn't even true to make himself feel better.

Whens Justin Pogge going to be ready to tend the net for the Leafs?
How's that guy Rask developing for you guys? - TheGame316
Thanks for your concern about the Leafs. Those goalies are no longer here - we have picked up an elite goalie - which Ryan Miller used to be ten or twelve years ago. Say hello to the Sedin twins and wish them a happy 36th birthday, congratulate them on being the most overpaid players in the league. Congratulations also on losing the draft lottery. It's a shame, but your team will continue to suck for a long time. Thanks for trolling - Now (frank) off.

Goalie came from California, so it must be the same. |

Marner is done with junior hockey, or at least he should be. He's too good for junior:
Carter Comeau @ComeauCarter11
@TSNBobMcKenzie is marner big enough and ready to play in the NHL next year? If not, wouldn't it be ridiculous for him to play in OHL again |

The Phaneuf deal is great for the Sens, the Sens are much closer to being a top playoff contender than people think. But Leaf fans are unrealistic. Meanwhile most Leaf fans are saying playoffs would be a reach and have been totally down with a patient rebuild, which is what is happening. |

He'll be in the NHL. Even if he's a scratch and on AHL conditioning stints etc. |

Yep. 40 games in the NHL is probably better than another 60 in the OHL. |

Agreed. I predicted four to five moves of significance before the end of the draft, need to see three more. Before the playoffs started my number one wish for the Leafs was to trade for either Murray or Anderson. I'm really happy with the move. Calgary can have Reimer. Next I wanted a solid d-man - which I'm sure is next on Lou's list. It's really a breath of fresh air to have competence at every level in the front office now.

They can say what they want, knowledgeable hockey fans know the Leafs have made huge strides. There are still holes - need a really good d-man or two and a few more goalie prospects. As long as we keep picking up good players, like Andersen and chip away at the cap. Lots more free cap space coming.

It's pretty funny, I've seen Andersen play a lot of games - the guy is huge, and has a ton of battle in him. It's simply a scenario where Anaheim has 2 great goalies and Andersen was going to cost them 5 million or so and they already have Gibson signed at a very reasonable contract. They need the money for some forward talent, it's a great trade for the Leafs and a good one for Anaheim stocking up a couple picks for something they really didn't need with only so much cap space available.
Great move by Lou. |

Assuming Robidas and Horton are off the Cap then the Leafs have about 60 million committed to 14 forwards, 4 dmen, and 2 goalies (plus buyouts and retained $).
They've got about 11.5 to play with and need to re-sign 3 young inexpensive dmen.
And about 22 million in 'final year' contracts. |

If we were to buyout Bernier, how much would we save? - MCharisma91
No!! Do not buy him out. The last part of the season he played very well, albeit for meaningless games. Give him some starts and if he succeeds, hopefully his trade value will be enough to move him for a mid-round pick. He only has a year left on that deal and a contender may be willing to trade for him in case their starter goes down. |

I really do wonder about this Vesey situation and Buffalo, whole things seems very odd - like they got caught tampering and had to pay the piper. |
