I actually believe Laine is slightly more talented than Mathews, but you can't pass on a center who has all the tools. Too early to say he will be the better or worse to Eichel, but i'd be happy if Mathews turned out to be an Eric Staal in his prime or a Kopitar.

seriously though the nucks are rolling miller and are the 3rd worst team in the league. they have made numerous terrible trades and are gonna miss out on the big 3 this year. time to slink away

1) Leafs move Phaneuf to Ottawa - freeing up 7M long term CAP commitment and creating "opening" for new captain

3) Leafs move Reimer out and get 3rd Round (I believe) from San Jose
4) Leafs trade for Andersen late 1st round pick and 3rd round from San Jose to REPLACE little Johnny "call me Nelson" Bernier

6) Leafs draft 1st overall

Andersen is a legitimate NHL starter.
He's not Cory Schneider though (apart from the hair ).
But he'll be a good upgrade for Leafs in net.
Plus he seems to fit the Lou/Babcock mold of 'good human being'. (seems like a good stable guy to me).

- trade Bozak
- draft Matthews
- draft few good prospects including 1 or 2 goalies.
- sign Stamkos
- get a 1st pairing D-man via trade.

Pogge was a bust, and Rask was traded to Boston for Raycroft who was terrible, while Rask has gone on to be an elite starter for Boston.

Exactly.

I believe we heard this song and dance before. It seems like only a short time age you were claiming that Bernier was the key to your finding your inner Nelson Mandella. There is no evidence to suggest Andersen is any better as a goalie than either Bernier or Mandella. But we all enjoy Leaf summer talk. It has been a little better and a bit more over the top than previous years. But, it is certainly entertaining.

People are purposely ignoring this fact, I think. Andersen was a starter the last two seasons. He's a quality NHL starting goal tender. Not Vezina calibre, but better and more established either Bernier or Toskala when they were acquired.
