If the Leafs ever win the Cup, I'm going to be the biggest arsehole to every other fan base.

Leafs Nation will be insufferable. Even if the Leafs are top playoff contenders at some point, there's a few fanbases who made a career out of coming in here while they were up and we were down that are really, really going to suck it. |

Ahaha Stoopid Leaves. They need a goalie.
They just traded for Andersen.
Ahaha Stoopid Leaves. Almost 10 mil on goalies.
Bernier only has a year left, which we don't expect this team to contend during anyways.
Ahaha Stoopid Leaves. Andersen isn't good. |

It's not the same. Bernier was untested, and played 2nd fiddle to Quick his whole time in LA. Andersen is not Carey Price, but what he appears to be is a legitimate NHL starter that you can have confidence in. As a fan, I want that for the young kids this team will be giving ice time to. - BetterCallSaul
Even just on a physical basis, Bernier is small by today's goalie standards and Andersen is a big man. Yeah that means nothing by itself, but watching some of the other talented big goalies on other teams this past year, I think it makes a difference. |

Or people saying Andersen is a backup like Bernier. Bernier was stuck behind Quick in LA, Andersen has significantly more experience than Bernier had. |

Risky move by the Leafs... reminds me of when the Leafs brought in Bernier. Looks like a mistake to me at face value but time will tell. - MacPatty
I am surprised with the contract but I find the trade to be decent value and a good risk to take. Everyone would have been happy with them drafting some goalie at 30 so I don't mind trading the pick for a decent goalie that had proved he can play in the NHL and now time to see to what extent. |

$25 a month on our car insurance.
1.433m in savings this year, with a cap hit of 716k next year. |

I heard Sabres where the #2 option the other day—have not heard anything since.
Apparently the Leafs WERE in the market for a goalie and willing to commit to $5.5 million a year. So that tells me they likely did at least talk to the Hawks about Crawford.
All I know is, I saw Freddy Andersen EPICLY melt down in the WCF in 2015—and get totally outplayed by Crawford. But Leaf fans are probably too busy planning their parade to consider that. - John Jaeckel

Lou knows goalies. He traded a top 10 pick for Cory Schneider. That worked out well for the Devils. Time will tell, but you have to look at what they gave up. The last pick in the first round and a third rounder.....neither where their own. We now have a starter, a possible asset in Bernier and an opportunity to go after a Kevin Shattenkirk for someone like Kadri. I am against a Stamkos signing, but see it more possible, after this deal. If they can indeed sign Stamkos and add a player like Shattenkirk, the rebuild is almost complete and they'll make a move into playoff contention this year.

Big Lou said size is a "necessity" for goalies.
Andersen 6'4" 220
Berndella 6' 180
Lets hope Lou's right. |

This is the only reason I'm comfortable with the trade
the other part of me is saying "why the (frank) are we trading for another california team goalie" |

It's so great you finally came out of that coma - we were worried about you.
But a few things happened since you bumped your head last October.
Let's start with Bernier's play... |

the past has no bearing on the present. it doesnt matter if Schneider can stop pucks its up to andersen to do it in toronto.
and for the last time no to trading kadri for these losers yous want on the blueline |

Guy is a complete bag of richards. No different than the majority of Hawks fans. Their team wins, so he must be the smartest guy in the room. I don't see any Leafs fans saying Andersen makes the Leafs a contender... just being happy that we have a starter that has more promise than Bernier. |

The reason that Bernier is a possible asset, is the need by many teams for experienced goaltenders. Brian Burke has kicked the tires on Bernier a number of times. As the UFA goaltenders or goaltenders on the market are snapped up, Bernier becomes a possible target at a modest price. Could he get a third? Maybe a salary dump for a year plus a pick.
I don't know why you think that I bumped my head last October. I was totally on board for the Tank and wanted them to finish dead last and take their best shot at number 1. Now that they have it, it clarifies and solidifies their centre position. It's been needed for a decade. I'm not sold on Stamkos, not because of his talent, but his cap hit. To add Stamkos on the 30th place team, with no goaltending and substandard defense, it would have been a waste and would have downgraded future drafting positions. It only makes sense if we have a great goalie and come up with a top 2 defenseman. The goaltender is now in the fold, now we need that defenseman. Shattenkirk fits the bill.

Where does Kadri fit, if we end up signing Stamkos and draft Matthews? Third line centre? Better to shore up the defense, if we have two great centre's ahead of him. You'd get more for Kadri and could use Bozak on the third line for a couple of more years.
