As good a GM as Bowman is, Chicago is in salary cap hell/jail for the foreseeable future. Enjoy Hossa at age 42 at a $5.275 cap hit I'm sure he will be just hitting his peak. Corey Crawford was just named as one of the 3 best goalies for Team Canada at the World Cup of hockey, and those guys know more about hockey and evaluating talent than anyone on this blog. Oh yeah, and those 2 Cups he won were pretty impressive too. Especially in 2015 with 40 yr old Kimmo Timmonen and David freakin Rundblad on defense in front of him.

IIRC, Andersen and Crawford were both fantastic for the 1st 3 games of that series. Both were less than exemplary for the remainder though it's kind of hard to fault them as that was a ridiculously high flying final 4 games between them. Looking less than stellar against the eventual Stanley Cup winner can be forgiven.

He may not be a top 5 stud goalie but it gives the Leafs a guy who has playoff experience while we hopefully draft a tender who will be a star.

I'm cautiously optimistic. The jury is still out on whether this was good value or the latest goalie debacle...

I really like the trade as far as what was given up and the upside of the big Dane. I just think the AAV+term are a bit premature for a guy with potential, but not a proven track record. TWT.

Yeah, not sure we really need him. I guess it depends on whether management thinks he would be better than all the other excellent young forwards we already have wanting spots on the Leafs. Is Vesey actually good enough to take a spot away from guys like Marner, Nylander, Brown, Kapanen, Hyman, Soshnikov, etc?

But it would be hilarious if Vesey disses Buffalo now and signs elsewhere after reading Garf's blog and the comments from some of the more obnoxious Buffalo fans. Toronto, Boston, or somewhere else doesn't really matter.

The last backup goalie the Leafs traded for and signed worked out so well, so why not try it again?? LOL

Anderson is a huge goalie and built like an NFL Linebacker at 6'4" 240lbs. He's only 26 and could improve with the starting job guaranteed and no pressure from a guy like Gibson and outplayed by Pekka Rinne this spring. Though, he got absolutely picked apart by the Hawks in the 2015 WCF and has had a sub .920 save % in his first two seasons (with a superior defense in front of him compared to Morgan Reilly and...??). Also, seems like a bit of an overpayment on AAV+term for a guy that has 2 years of NHL experience and was splitting time in Anaheim. Good Luck!
