Yeah but that is worse for Colorado. Protect only 4 forwards? Granted I don't follow the team as much as others so maybe not but personally I like Duchene, Land and a huge fan of MacKinnon. Certainly there has to be two forwards that the team covets. Protecting forwards I think makes more sense. Vegas will pick more of them so a defender with a large contract might be passed on. I think most people will only protect three defenders because it makes more sense for a lot of teams. Some only have three defenders they can't do without and others can't risk losing a couple of key forwards to protect their fourth best defender.

Maybe Colorado will be one of the exceptions but until the official rules are released I am not betting on it.

Yeah this is silly. Leon is going to be a great player. He has already shown he CAN be a point a game guy. Not saying he can keep that up long term but if he can transition his two way play he showcased in the Memorial Cup to the NHL he will be an amazing asset and allow Connor to concentrate of offensive zone and PP draws. I can see him being a center like Toews or Bergeron. Plus Eberle is a great compliment to McDavid. They already seem to have great Chemistry which allows the Oil to play with their top two lines more to get the most out of Hall and Leon. I wouldn't trade those two not to mention throwing in a pick which GMs seem to put huge value on (and this year maybe more than most due to the fact that the selected player doesn't have to be protected during expansion).

Last I read teams could only protect 3 defenders. I know that this isn't set in stone as nothing official has been released. That would put one of them unprotected. Thanks for the genius reply.

Definitely. Especially with teams like the Yotes who have to sign half of their team. So many signings, buyouts and trades to still go down.

NTC dont mean a thing, Soderberg could be exposed if they want. They go 8skaters and protect

Mack, Duchene, Landy, EJ, Barrie, Zads, Beauch and probably Grigo.
Soderberg, Comeau, Gelinas, will be the top 3 guys exposed. Iggy is a pending UFA before the expansion draft so he is exempt, players need to have term on their contracts to be eligible to be posted for the draft

You may be correct on Pulock.

I thought all NMC and NTC had to be automatically on your protected list.
