Sorry Hendo. Normally I agree with a lot of your blog but not this one. I think one of us doesn't know the definition of ineptitude. Or maybe I didn't understand what you were getting at. It would take a lot to get the players from their teams or it would take stupidity on the part of Oilers management?

I also don't think that the league is all looking for the same thing that the Oilers are. I do agree that there is a finite number of top pairing defense men (I don't consider Hamonic to be one). However there are a lot of teams that need top line centers or goalies more. Minnesota for example needs to shed salary from their blue line to grab a top line center.

Decent defenders and Centers are available via FA. People can argue that the Oilers have no chance of signing one of these but someone will which leaves less teams to compete for those on the trade block. There are also a bunch of things to consider. Teams can only protect a certain number of players during the expansion which will most likely happen next season. Some teams have to consider that if they don't trade a player or two now might end up getting less return later assuming the trade deadline being the last real chance to trade.

Calgary, Colorado, Minnesota, Columbus, Buffalo, Anahiem... are just a few of the teams that might be willing to trade an unprotected defender for picks or a key player. I know a lot of these are not likely to trade with Edmonton as they are division rivals but I think that the number of possible trade partners due to the number of teams with cap problems is limited. Rumor is that Minnesota inquired about RNH for Brodin and Dumba. Not sure this is the solution for either team or what else would be involved in this trade but there are teams out there looking to trade.

IMO I think signing an FA is the way to go. Whether that an offer sheet or a UFA. I think it would be better at this point to take a higher cap hit than to part with a core player.

I think you should change your name to Ineptitude instead of dragging poor Hall's through the mud.

Colorado is not going ot be trading an unprotected Dman for picks or prospects you mouth breather. They protect Beauch (NMC) EJ, Barrie, and Zads. Thats it, they dont have give away a Dman.

I'd say both of you.

Did you see my offer to you on the last thread? You too chicken to put your money where your mouth is?

Cool. I am taking literacy lessons for you. I know I reworded the meaning but ineptitude is really something specific. However I will defer to you as I am betting you have quite a grasp on being inept.

I missed your post on the last thread. I don't read everything and not usually much of what you type. I will take a look. I am certain it is quite astute and well thought out.

I'm thinking you don't know who Draisaitl is......like he's a throw in.

Hardly. Draisaitl for Jones is pretty heavy hitting.

ever stop to think that perhaps the core is broken after so many years of losing and perhaps moving one or two of them could just help everyone involved? also at this point it shouldnt matter how we get help on the blueline just as long as we get it....either it be trades or through free agency
- RatedR80

Maybe. I know we didn't due much for Schultz or Nail. Still Eberle and Hall did amazing in the world championships last year and Hall again this year. Word from the dressing room is that these guys are out there to win. They are all really young and I am reluctant to think they are that far gone. I do agree that getting a top defender is key to the Oilers and that they could part with one if that is what it takes.

I just can't help but think that the value of these players will only rise after a successful season and I am optimistic about next year. Plus I think RNH will do great on Team North America. I think if the team can spare anyone long term it is Nuge. It would be a shame to keep Leon on the third line long term. He is a great two way center and can be played for key defense zone draws.

I just haven't heard of anyone on the block that is worth one of the players. I don't know who they would be trading for. I don't think Hamonic or Barrie straight across is a win for the Oil. Still in a larger trade something might be doable.

Last I read teams could only protect 3 defenders. I know that this isn't set in stone as nothing official has been released. That would put one of them unprotected. Thanks for the genius reply.

Hartnell is a good player for Oilers. He brings character and grit and is really a good presence in dressing room.

Yeah but that is worse for Colorado. Protect only 4 forwards? Granted I don't follow the team as much as others so maybe not but personally I like Duchene, Land and a huge fan of MacKinnon. Certainly there has to be two forwards that the team covets. Protecting forwards I think makes more sense. Vegas will pick more of them so a defender with a large contract might be passed on. I think most people will only protect three defenders because it makes more sense for a lot of teams. Some only have three defenders they can't do without and others can't risk losing a couple of key forwards to protect their fourth best defender.

Maybe Colorado will be one of the exceptions but until the official rules are released I am not betting on it.

They can get one of those for far less than you suggest them trading for it.
