Detroit should be able to find some bottom feeder to take that one without an albatross coming back.
- jmatchett383

I think Detroit is in a tough spot trying to move that deal.
Their GM already said he won't include a good prospect to move the contract.
What does the team get back who takes Datsyuk's cap hit?

I don't think taking AMac, even at $4M instead of $5M, helps them enough. It saves them $3M this year, and then they're stuck with him moving forward.
- jmatchett383

Well it comes down to if they cant move the contract, and they really need some relief, you never know. Gms do stupid poop when desperate(I know Holland is the best of the bunch, but his comments over the weekend were pretty honest and I really don't think he expects a deal to be made)

One other guy who'd I entertain a 1 or 2 year offer to is Vanek if he does get bought out by the Wild. Prob not a popular suggestion but he is a LW and can score 20 goals
- arichardson22

At this point with his reputation and age he'll probably only get a one year prove it deal. Not a bad suggestion

For some reason, Vanek is a guy I never wanted, ever. Guys like Vanek, Hemsky, Tanguay, O. Jokinen, etc. seem like very one-dimensional players who disappear when they're not scoring, and don't offset their deficiencies with their play with the puck. I don't need you to win a Selke, but don't just float around when you don't have the puck, and don't be afraid of body contact with and without the puck.

Not if they want to take a run at Stamkos. They need to clear space out. Moving the cap space now lets them do that.
- J35Bacher

If they take AMac they don't have room to pursue Stamkos. Moot point

The wings taking a poop contract back in return that has more years on it, or a high pick.

That's the problem.

Helps now but not later.

With the Flyers still in rebuild mode I was interested in a way of trying to take on the Datsyuk hit if it let you get a prospect.

Streit(50%) retained for Datsyuk contract and Pulkkinen/Jurco.

I would take the hurt now and try to land a prospect. But probably a tough deal to do unless you have space like Coyotes or maybe the Maple Leafs

Can the Flyers even handle that this year, cap-wise?

I think they could.

Move Read.

Have some players on ELC deals like Provorov and Konecny.

Like I said. Probably a tough thing to do

I'm nearing a ton of chatter involving the Edmonton Oilers trading their fourth overall pick. The #4 and Jordan Eberle have been linked to Buffalo who want to jump up from #8.

Philly selects 18th and they have been linked to the 4th pick and Eberle.

What would that costs? Have to be defensive prospect going to EDM.

Holland said he'd rather just play out the season with youth and absorb the contract than move the contract with a pick or prospect

Not teams that arent suffocating cap wise.

Chicago traded TT because he didnt appear to fit on their team both on the ice and under the cap...got rid of a contract without a buyout...and got draft picks theyve been giving away for years. There are long term reasons why this makes sense

Detroit loses one of their best players and has to carry dead space for a year....trading a prospect to get rid of this makes sense how? Do they have a cup winning core? Do they have cap issues that require sacrifices to be made?

OK.

But he might not be willing to just flat out say he needs to trade it to pursue Stamkos.

They could move Howard to try and clear space too.

They need to resign Dekeyser, Marchenkov and Mrazk. Also have Howard with a 5.2 cap hit I believe. So a dead space of 7.5 does hurt them. If they can clear the 7.5 while moving a pick or a prospect like Chicago then I think they will. Especially if it does allow them to purse Stamkos or maybe someone else. They will also try to move howard too

While I think its wise for Edmonton to trade their #4 pick, I don't see the Flyers giving up a ton to get the #4 plus Eberle.
