150 years ago (OK, actually 1996) a buddy got married on the night that Canada played Sweden in the Hockey World Cup semi-finals.

They got married in a restaurant in downtown Toronto. It didn't have a TV.

A few of us snuck out to see a period or two (luckily, future Mrs. AW was out of country, so I was solo).

Effing game went to double OT.

Oh, and what a franking game it was.

We thought the groom might be pissed, but he totally understood. Just wanted updates.

I remember back in 96, ol' Lums was in grade 9 and it was the England vs Netherlands game at Euro 1996... and we were to be stuck in religion class.

So being the smart kids we were, we all conspired to have some small FM receivers with headphones going up our sleeves (it was a hot day so long sleeves was unbearable!) and then we could simply lean on our arms in class (normal, right?) but really be listening to the game while hiding the wire.


Great plan. Flawless plan. Worked like a charm.

Good 2-way d-man, excellent possesion player and great on the powerplay.
Maybe not best d-partner for Rielly, but great with Zaitsev.

I'd prefer Leafs to move Gardiner+ for help on D (first pairing d-man to be on top pair with Rielly) over JVR.
