I'm with you on this.

just trying to weigh the pros and cons, regarding buyouts, maybe FA wants to save a few bucks? (I hope he isn't as much into the business as that or I'd guess he'd be ordering the cheapest toilet paper for the washrooms too)

- hillbillydeluxe

I have an inkling his hands are all over that business. Some owners pour all kinds of money into their franchise, others try to pull it out.

it is more of the player decisions I'd be worried about but I guess it is all connected to money when it comes to salaries and such.

I wonder how often JB talks to FA? daily, weekly?

a first plus lol. Benning said yesterday that we were never offered a trade for Miller. SJ considered a move and found a younger superior solution. what an absolute muppet.
- CanuckDon

Lol seriously.. I couldn't stop laughing.. People are losing it on his tweets from a few days ago.. Benning says there was barely a conversation but all knowing taj says it's aa fact we were offered that

I'd imagine he speaks to him more frequently at key times of the season (trade deadline, FA signing, draft ) but Linden is there to serve as the buffer for the most part.

I wonder how that works "... I know he is there, I want to talk to him "

I tell myself that FA is a better owner than McCaw, with Messier being the best evidence... but ideally, you want an owner that is passionate, but hands off. Must be difficult to be passionate and not want or use some influence.

I agree that hands off is the best. However, it you're going to have a hands on owner then please let it be someone like Jerry Jones that wants to win. (ok, maybe a bad example as he made himself GM)

If you have to buy someone out it usually means that other clubs don't find them useful......or their contract really is out to lunch.

I could see Higgins being buried and Burrows being traded with 50% salary retained.

- golfingsince

They can always do like Chicago and move something good with them, but this would most likely be stupid for a team like Vancouver.

Other option would be to take another bad contract.

I just don't see any value in taking back a bad contract if Burrows only has a year left. Higgins is cheap enough if buried.

Were not in a position to be handing out assets to unload on a contract. It's not like we're competing this year for a cup.. I'd rather have Burrows play I out and guaranteed a team would be interested in himhim for a playoff push at the tdl

no thanks

The only reason Burrows would be attractive to teams is his playoff performances. Clutch goals. Multiple OT and series winners. + his cap hit is more than his actual salary. Good for a team trying to reach bottom floor. But a contender may take him at TDL for half salary. Problem is he will have to be kept on the team until then.

Don't see either being traded.

Anyone who yells stupid things after someone tees off, like:

mashed potatoes
hold the door
beef stew
get in the hole (on a par 5)

should be escorted off the property. its not funny. its old. nobody thinks your cool. enough.

It occurred to me Benning might be playing possum through the media with his comments on Tkachuk, so he could take the attention away from his desire to draft Dubois....but I'm not so sure he's smart enough.

Whoever he picks, I have faith that he'll make a great selection

I am positive u cannot get into ppl's head.
Comes off as pretty condescending tbh.
Why not wait n see how it plays out.

"...ready to dangle Alex Burrows and Chris Higgins as trade possibilities to add picks before buying them out..."

I suspect the only way they will be traded is if the Canucks eat salary.... then again, I guess that would be okay as long as we get some picks.

- hillbillydeluxe

Eating salary saves 1yr of BO cap.
Works for me if can be dealt.

This potential and likely stroke penalty for DJ is making this a crazy finish. Even without it.
