Using Kanye and Pitbull as a comparison of quality is like using a Prius and a literal bicycle as a comparison of speed. Big difference between the two examples, but neither side gets close to good. - Rexypoo
I know music is subjective, but I wouldn't respect a single thing a person thought about music or art if they didn't at least appreciate what Kanye has done.
You don't need to be a fan, but he ranks behind only Radiohead as far as most important artists of the 2000s. |

Some don't listen to Kanye and think it's crap. No biggie, but his music is not something you can call "important" to people who don't like that type of music.
I like Radiohead but I don't think they're more than average, it's just a preference.
So using music references is sort of moot unless talking to someone with the exact same taste as you. |

Carlyle may not be the best but you can't judge him for the failure in Toronto. Look at the crap team they iced. That is on the GM. He had them in a playoff position the fired and they tanked. Then they sh*t the bed and dumped the roster in a re-build.
Give him a chance before you make that call that he sucks. Boudreau chokes every time in the playoffs and that is a fact proven with two teams. |

The thing is, will anyone give up anything all that good for Cam Fowler? Plus Bob Murray has a history of making really bad decisions. I don't think a good GM would trade Lindholm. I put the odds of the Ducks keeping him at 50/50, based entirely on my considering Bob Murray as a terrible GM. - James_Tanner
So tell us , what makes BM such a bad GM? Tell me one GM that doesn't make a questionable decision on a player. D-men are a premium mores than forwards and Cam, when paired with the right partner plays a heck of a game. Someone will be willing to pay for him. |

Honestly, I'm not entirely familiar with their full catalogue. So I'm being slightly unfair....
I would say Bowie is the greatest of all time - AxlRose91

He's an average rapper who's had some admittedly solid music in the past. But not in a long while and his success has gone to his head. He's arrogant and doesn't put in the effort. With most rap you can guarantee of its on the radio, it's not good. |

I'd throw Queen, Tupac, Eminem, Elvis, MJ, and Bon Jovi votes as the greatest of all time. Also, Ed Sheeran in about 15 years. |

Both. Which I why I missed a bunch. I'm mad I missed early 2000's Linkin Park, Biggie, and ABBA
I'm throwing out obvious ones along with my personal favourites. Hence Elvis, Linkin Park, Eminem, and ABBA in a sentence together. |

Kanye is still a complete ass and doesn't hold a candle to Biggie Smalls, Grandmaster Flash, Or Jay-Z!!!!!!!
Edit: That's just a few. Run-DMC, Fat Boys, Tupac. The best rapper alive would probably not boast about being the best rapper alive, unless his name is Kayne who had Ray J's sloppy seconds |

It's not the same taste, just being knowledgeable. I mean, you could be a fan of music and not know anything about what is critically lauded or influential or whatever, but you could also know about that stuff and have different taste.
Like, it's OK to hate the Beatles but understand their importance, but it just sounds dumb if you're like "The Beatles suck." That's my take anyways, as always, these are just my opinions. |

No no no no. I had this debate the other day over 130 comments. I'm good.
Carlyle did not 'have the Leafs in the playoffs' though. He has a team that was defying all anayltics that said they would crash. I personally wrote an article three weeks before they fired Carlyle calling their record smoke and mirrors. I was write. |

Kanye's last three records are all-time masterpieces. Yes he's an idiot, but his music is genius. I love the guy. I think he's even better than he himself thinks he is.
He's got more classic records than Nas, Jay-z, Tupac, Biggie, Wu Tang etc. Take out Jay-Z and he's probably got more classics than all those guys combined, though obviously out of extenuating circumstances. |

Not really my thing, but can't deny Kanye's achievements. He's an idiot savant, but the savant part is real. Radiohead is great too. Although especially since the 2000s and on, music has splintered into so many different subgenres I think it's impossible to say any one or two or more artists are the most important. There's so much more going on that they don't really have anything to do with. That's cool though, the variety is good. Like I could say that the White Stripes and Spoon have been two signature bands from that time and on, but that's just within their particular genres. You would probably have to pick a couple dozen acts to represent the best in all the genres now, and that's exciting. |

Queen: OK, kind of overrated. Not my favorite, but I respect them.
Tupac: Severely overrated. All Eyez on Me is perhaps the most overrated record in music history.
Eminem: One amazing classic record, some embarrassingly bad post MMLP records. We're talking Limp Bizkit bad in some cases. One of the greatest flows of all time, unfortunately wasted on insisting on being his own producer and/or hiring stooges / drug problems.
Elvis: Agree totally. Reality even exceeds the hype in some cases.
Michael Jackson: Also agree.
Bon Jovi: That must be a joke. |

To each their own. I find Kanye to be underwhelming, and not in a class of those you listed above. |

Literally every rapper who could ever be considered 'best rapper alive' has a song about it. I can't link to it for obvious reasons, but you should youtube Lil Wayne's 'best rapper alive' it's an amazing song, and, at the time, 100% true. |

Love Leaf summer talk. Just a wonderful mix of magical thinking sprinkled with fairy dust and triumphal celebration. But, this year we know for certain is different. We have Burke who put together a Stanley Cup winner in Anaheim and Kessel is a world class talent. Giving up two firsts for Kessel is a bargain. Picks don't need to be lottery protected because we are going to be a Cup contender.
Leafs have a better prospect pool than anybody. Who wants McDavid when you can have Matthews. The Winnipeg group is overrated and nobody needs so much balance between highly rated forward and defence prospects. And, we won't talk about Phoenix because...well they are Phoenix.
We are so glad we are going to the playoffs and the Stanley Cup parade will be better than Pittsburgh that gave far too much credit to dough boy. He could skate and score but just not a winner.
I am sure the Leafs will not get knocked out of the playoffs before Christmas again this year. - spatso
Haha have to love the analysis of a fan whose team has literally nothing going for it.

You're not wrong in that Leafs fans can be ridiculous. They aren't more ridiculous than anyone else's fans, there's just more of them.
But getting Auston Matthews can't be overrated. If you get Auston Mattews you have the second best player in the NHL for the next decade after Connor McDavid, so it's a pretty big deal, no matter how ridiculous we are as a group.
If you can find me another team that has ever had the #1 pick in the draft, the best player in the AHL and the best player in the OHL, then I'll take it back. But the Leafs also have Gardiner, Kadri and JVR (i.e excellent veterens) and a tonne of other good prospects they probably don't even have room for (Brown, Kapanen, Leivo, Bracco).
I think this one time we're allowed to be optimistic. - James_Tanner
I know you love your analytics which suggest Gardiner is just the bees knees, unfortunately he just isn't that good.
Here's to hoping Reilly becomes that number 1 guy but if the Leafs want to be more than just a playoff team in the next couple seasons, they need another 1a 1b.

Eichel is & will be better than Mathews.
Mario is #4 behind Gordie, Wayne & Bobby.
I just think that if the Leafs are able to land Stamkos for big money/long term, they'll regret it.
Too early for a Shanny-statue.
That said, I enjoy the thoughts you offer...good entertainment. - haymac
Pretty bold comment about a guy who wasnt even good enough to be a calder nominee. |
