I think the same thing they'll move out these guys in a few trades. If pc can learn from what Benning did with the EG trade is that you have to overpay for D then he will get some trades done otherwise why would another manager agree to an equal hockey trade. You're looking to make yourselves better not "Rob Peter to pay Paul" exactly but they'll have to overpay to get what they want. The bottom dwellers don't have much leverage except "if you have cap space"

Exactly this is life on todays top 4 D market…overpayments are becoming the norm.

One would have to think that Chiarelli is looking at Dmen that have more impact then Hamonic/Tanev types. I understand what you are saying that getting the return for guys like Eberle will be tough, but EDM has other assets to package up and move as well. He will have to overpay for a few top 4 Dmen but at this point I'm not sure he has a choice…Chiarelli has to get something done.

I have not heard of any #1#2 Dmen on the trade block . If there was the price would be even steeper and cost Hall, their second best player. That's an even bigger problem.

It doesn't have to be 1-2 slot Dmen although I'm sure Chiarelli would like a top 2 guy. The price will be steep enough for 3-4 slot Dmen. It's possible for Chiarelli to acquire a few 3-4 slot Dmen without sacrificing Hall. Just depends what's out there and the direction he wants to take and how much he wants to overpay.

Here are some mentioned names

Trouba
Dumba
Barrie
Shattenkirk
Any one of those start the bidding with Eberle.

Lots of teams looking for D. Oilers best bet is to draft Sergachev.

Trade with Montreal and hope he is there at 9 . Problem is Coyotes need D badly too.

I would be ok also if Benning did take MS at #5 . We would have a solid D for years to come.

So depending on which cup winning team's model Chiarelli looks at or not. Pitt won with one to dman Letang and the rest you could interchange with any top 6 really. Chicago has had both Keith and Seabrook, LA with Doughty and gang, but the common thread is that they each have one stud dman. PC has the horses to trade for one but like Vantel said I think you have to way overpay for that the only one they have that would be of interest is really Hall

So the big question is who is willing to trade for Hall because they already have a strong defence maybe St. Louis with Shattenkirk, maybe Barrie out of Colorado in a big package with Duchene because they want Duchene out which would be a shame since I'd like to have Duchene as I think he's under rated. Or someone else that wants the potential scoring from Hall and is willing to make that hockey trade Islanders with Okposo leaving and they're an up and coming team? Hmmm

I agree Vantel with the list but don't think Eberle will be enough just look at the Eng trade.

But this is just it isn't it? Letang is a Norris quality D that logs 28 min per game. Even if you only have one you can surround those types with 3-4 or 5-6 slot Dmen and succeed. Will Chiarelli get a Letang type guy no but there are 3-4 slot guys out there. It's start that HAS to happen in EDM this summer. If he waits another year he's setting himself up for failure.

Same, I was readin HF last night. Everyone there is the exact same as Phucker. It is like he has dozens of usernames. I also got an infraction for mentioning a certain ex-canucks well known coke problem, leading up to stage 2 rehab.

Maybe he figures EDM can get another 1OA and get that stud dman in next years draft

A very good scenario to be sure but this is a good list and exactly my point. Any combination of these 2 Dmen you mention on an Oilers uni changes the ENTIRE dimension of that club. He'll overpay but it's what Chiarelli needs to do and he knows it.

There are at least a dozen teams looking to upgrade on D the bidding will be high. Rob from Peter to pay Paul.

Bang on. It has to happen this offseason. Eventually they run into cap problems if they wait too long. This is also why they need to start drafting D to compliment whoever they bring in.

If that's what Chiarelli needs to do then he needs to make something happen. New building in EDM…fans are super dedicated there and need some return. It's time.

Sakic said Barrie's not going anywhere. Take him off the list. There's probably a few surprises out there, too. Kind of like Gubranson.
