Risto isn't going anywhere unless the return is Hall

If we ever got Eberle for Bogosian straight up we should thank the hockey gods for the their turn of good fortune

So Bernstein yesterday thinks Sabres could trade for Tanner Pearson. He thinks Pysyk would be a fair trade. Similar cap hits and term. I'd consider it but I brought it to his attention that Pearson overall seems like a 3rd line LW not a 1st or 2nd. He claims that if given top six minutes Pearson can easily produce better numbers then his 36 points last year. Could be a consolation prize. Thoughts?

I would do it in a heartbeat

pearson has size, nice shot, decent wheels and plays a 2 way game

perfect guy to move up a line if needed and is getting better each year

of course I would cut ties with foligno if we got him

Certainly think he would be an improvement over McGinn or Foligno by a long shot. I still think we should focus on finding someone with more speed (even though he doesn't play slow persay) like Boedker. It's tough to argue against him being a capable 50 pt player if he was given more minutes. He only averaged around 13 minutes for LA and could very well be getting 18 or so with us. That's a lot of time time to play with to get those next 14 pts to jump to 50. Plus he's 23 so still keeps with the youth movement time frame.

I wouldn't mind a Pearson for Pysyk swap. But I will admit I haven't seen Pearson play much.

Me either. Just looked at his numbers. It would be a calculated risk by Murray. Hoping he turns into a 50 point 20 plus goal scorer and 2nd line winger. If the return is only Pysyk could be worth the risk. It would leave Murray options.

He could package Foligno then for a LHD and still sign a more proven LW to play 2nd line.

Or he could hope Pearson is the 2nd line LW he's been searching for and use the resources he has on paying a true top LHD and maybe a RW

At the same time though I really want to see Pysyk in a bigger role to see if his play can translate against the tougher competition.

He is a hidden gem when given the opportunity he will break out like Wayne Simmons did

Pearson is a solid 3rd liner. He's like a Kris Versteeg type of player. Solid shot, good around the net, won't wow anyone

This I do not agree with.

He is who he is.

A very nice 3rd liner.

You always seem to say everyone is the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Pearson is 24 and is who he is.

A very nice 3rd liner that can spot duty 2nd line.

This team needs 1st line players not more 3rd liners.

The Oilers have been on the Sabres for a long while to see if they can acquire defenceman Rasmus Ristolainen from them for a winger (Eberle has probably been pitched) but it’s a non-starter. Buffalo needs wingers, for sure, but Ristolainen is untouchable. Probably even for Hall because the Sabres already have a similar player in Evander Kane.

Eberle? They have to think every team is as dumb as they are.

Risto is off the table, he is a non starting point.

I would trade Risto to get Hall and swap 1st rounders if we had a Zadorov level prospect in our system. But we don't.

I don't think I would trade Risto, we can get a " so called Hall type " for free without giving up players now. The media makes Hall out to be the second coming and if he was, the Oilers wouldn't think about moving him. They do have pieces to get a good D man without giving up Hall.

The Oilers mediocrity has afforded them a unique situation. They could trade a player like Hall even if they think he is the second coming because of all the top forward picks they have had in the last 7 or 8 seasons. I definitely wouldn't trade Risto for Eberle.

It would be a huge mistake. Everything that sbroads says about Bogosian is absolutely true about Psysk. And while we don't pay Pissek nearly as much as Bogosian, there isn't even POTENTIAL upside for Pissk anymore - in my view.

We've seen what he has to offer, in its best and highest form. And we can do far far better.

PS, where are all the Hot chicks and gozdillas?

Let's not get into a pissing contest. Some of us don't like Bogosian's play some of us don't like Pysyk's play. Only difference is Pysyk isn't paid like a top paining D man where as Bogosian is

Say what you will about his play, he has incredible fancy stats. It's worth giving him a bigger role. The way I look at it is like this, by eye test/current role, he's a 3rd pair guy. The fancy stats say he's top 2 (which I don't think he is), but meet in the middle and he could be a decent top 4 defenseman.

Another difference is that Pysyk's underlying numbers suggest he should have a bigger role, where as Bogosian's suggest he should have a smaller one. Personally I don't agree that Pysyk is very good. I think he is exactly what he should be, a 4-6 guy who does a few things well, and struggles other areas

Vatanen and Maata contracts give me hope we could get Risto for anywhere between 4.5-5 a year.

One simple way to avoid getting in a passing match is to not insert yourself into one that's already going on.
