NHLPA will agree to exercise the escalator clause (5%) but wants to make sure everybody's on board before making it official.

A 5% escalator on a flat cap from last year ($71.4) bumps it up to $74.97 mil FTR

I expect Rodin to be on the 2nd or 3rd line, the same with Sven, beyond that we have the Sedins, Sutter, Bo, Hansen, Dorsett and Granlund. That is 9 of 12 spots, not including Etem, Burrows, or JV... or UFA signings...

JB has some work to do.

Trade Hansen, Sbisa, sign Brouwer and nobody else

Sedin-Sedin-Brouwer
Baer-Sutter-Rodin
Etem-BoHo-JV
Burrows-Granlund-Dorsett
Vey

See how it goes, likely get a really good pick. The only way going UFA works is to drop Etem(doesnt seem like he can play 4th line well) cap dump Burrows. Still Trade Hanen, Sbisa, and sign Brouwer + someone to play sedins and a 4th liner

Sedin-Sedin-Erikson/Okposo/?
Rodin-Sutter-Brouwer
Baer-BoHo-JV
Martin(?)-Granlund-Dorsett
Vey

IMO, if we are not dipping into UFA hard there is no point to buy out or cap dump Burrows. I think this year we should focus on development(while trying to be competitive) and then look at the UFA market next year when contracts/old timers come off the books. Let Rodin/Etem/baer show what they can do, and keep the better and trade the lesser. Give Brouwer a 3 year deal and Martin a 2 year deal.

I'd be okay if they didn't pickup any big names and just do a couple of fill instead and let the young guys develop and see what the Svend and Co and see how it goes. If we really are bad do more deals at trade deadline and go for #1 pick and if we surprise then great.

Anyone traded in the expansion draft period would not be able to be traded until Jan 1 2018 to eliminate those types of moves

They don't even have a 1st line. At least the Twins can still produce.

The first forward core you demonstrated is softer than microwaved lard...

I like the idea of solidifying the bottom 6 with a guy like Martin.. We have the cap space to go for a grinder to help Dorsett. Hansen should stay and allow the top six Free agent we pick up to slot in on the second line giving us more of a 2 line threat because I am not convinced Rodin will have the grit or strength this year to play 82 games. I'm sorry to say it but the idea of having Lucic is starting to grow on me..

Benning looking pretty smart getting an RHD off the market before the bidding gets really intense.

I think the only ones I'd be interested in are McGinn, Martin, Okposo and maybe Ericsson. My preferred two players would be McGinn and Okposo. We could afford both and trade Hansen or Etem to make it fit. Cap might be a bit tight if it stays around the same but if it goes up, that would be the route I would go. I wouldn't be upset with Ericsson either over Okposo.

Sedin-Sedin-Virtanen
Baertschi-Sutter-Okposo
McGinn-Horvat-Rodin
Etem-Granlund-Dorsett

Vey/Gaunce

Those lines aren't set in stone but I tried to balance lines with youth, grit and speed. If Hansen is kept he would fit anywhere in there as well with Rodin or Etem being the odd guy out.

Anything could happen and it's just for fun but I hope they keep the UFA's they sign young enough to stay viable at the end of the terms. Okposo you could give a bit longer term with 5 to 6 years. McGinn maybe around 3 to 4 years.

Don't look the the lines like they are serious but what I see in it is possibility for guys to move around and make the team a bit grittier.

I read a sportnet article that said that Jim benning Trevor linden and ownership are trying to make the playoffs every year until the Sedins are done. So maybe getting a few younger assests that help you now and later is what the plan is until the full rebuild can start.
- Bigalow

And that sounds like a solid enough plan. It's important to remain competitive and use the sedins and other vets to help shelter and develop the youth. Pushing for the playoffs every year is good as long as it doesn't become desperation to make the playoffs in a particular year at the expense of the youth and future. Especially if you likely won't make it to the second round.
