Perhaps...I suspect Mccan was his primary target but no one knows as the Sedins won't single somebody out publicly. I've met JV at a bar in yaletown and he seems like a nice kid. Didn't have an attitude at all. i think/ hope he will be an important part of the team next year and won't require seasoning in Utica
- CanuckDon

i don't think anyone (even sedin) is accusing him of being a d!ck. i think it's more of a complacency/effort issue.

a young kid might think he's already "made it," b/c he's a regular on the team. every young player has to know that the work gets harder year after year. it doesn't end just b/c they were drafted highly and will eventually become top line players.

that sense of "development is natural/inevitable," is the attitude that sedin was referring to b/c we all know that nothing is inevitable with prospects. imo, it was not an indictment about his personality away from hockey. that was my take away.

Nice to hear a first hand account that he seems nice. I want to believe he can be like Bo as he grows up.
- NorthNuck

I was at a dinner with Bo once...he is the type of dude you would like to date your sister. Very humble and genuine. JV isn't going to be like Bo (and that's ok)but that is why Horvat may be our future captain. Not many young kids have an attitude as good as Horvats

Your 21 right? Would you buy a fancy car and apartment if you had a million dollars?
- CanuckDon

Can't say I wouldn't want to. But if I had a million dollars I wouldn't necessarily be famous. Plus I would trust the people in my life to keep me grounded whereas we don't know what JVs situation is. He meets a lot of rich and famous people, and he plays a sport on stage in front of thousands every night.

I think McDavid, just because the league can't have the second coming of Gretzky not win the Calder. It will be a tainted Calder, but likely his.
- Retinalz

wouldn't he be more gretzky like if he didn't win the calder?

For sure, and that's exactly why Linden and Benning want quality leaders like the Sedins and Hansen around to guide the youth

Yeah, not enough good things can be said about Bo, I'm so glad he's on our team. I wouldn't expect JV to be just like him but it's probably a good thing for him to be able to look over at a guy who's like that and only slightly older than him.

should just go to whoever has the most points or have 3 different awards by position. it could be labeled as tainted whoever wins unless they are head and shoulders better than all rookies.

It would follow in the Gretzky-Crosby pathway to greatness if you ask me..

The criteria is pretty vague. Hutton could be a Calder candidate if it was about responsibility and calm under pressure.

McDavid averaged over a PPG as a rookie. I think he is head and shoulders above the rest.

Without Larkin and Gostisbehere the Red Wings and Flyers don't make the playoffs.

I think the Calder will go to Panarin. 24 is not *that* old.

McDavid will be close in the voting and probably would have won if he had played the full season.

Anyway - the new blog today covers Baertschi, Gulutzan, Travis Green, and thoughts on the salary cap number.

It's not an MVP, it's about who the best rookie is.

Can't see how it's tainted? 48 pts in 45 games for McDavid was basically on a higher PPG than Patrick Kane if he played a full healthy season. All that from a rookie that had limited support from a bottom 5 Oiler team, and little to no puck moving defense to help him along.

To me McDavid is the only choice.

JB said in the media it would take something monumental to convince him to move down
- NorthNuck

I like JB saying that a lot. Aimed at the Habs i think.
Say 9OA Gallgher & 2nd or 3rd.
Gallagher a great contract & young.
The 9OA can be top 3 D left or Brown/Jost/Keller
Much depends on if JB has an eye on either C or take a D.
Then 1 nice UFA for cap money say Eriksson/Brouwer/Martin.
Eriksson will max our cap but the other 2 leaves us money.
A nice position going forward IMO.

Can someone help me understand the love affair with Matt Martin? I understand he's a physical player but I don't see what else he brings and why the Canucks would waste a roster spot on this guy. He played on one of the toughest 4th lines (which didnt help the Islanders much in a softer conference), but his season high was 13 minutes of ice time (aside from those couple OT games in the playoffs and had a career high 19 points. He isn't a poor-man's McGinn that you hope can put up some points, he's a stronger but arguably less talented Dorsett
- WhiteLie

He is big & young n prolly cost 3m or less.
Bangs all day & can score a little on the 3rd or 4th line.

That Expansion draft tool on Generalfanager is pretty cool. The Canucks can really only afford 1 UFA this year (eriksson). Then they would be leaving guys like granlund/Rodin unprotected...

Rodin could surprise. If he does, then JB will likely have to get creative. I don't want to trade Hansen. But for the expansion draft alone, it may be the best scenario come next TDL.

1 more week till Xmas in June!

- storm88

After our roster is settled we either show as a PO team or its a good time for aTDL deal or 2. Either way i like how it sets up.

really you don't think JV will make it this year? I think he'd be better to bring up then gaunce
- numbear

I think Gaunce cannot clear waivers is why JV can use seasoning but if wrong its earn your spot.
