whats the rules on players who will be UFAs for the 17-18 season? Guys like Bonino, bishop, burns, etc... will all be UFAs next season. Would they still need to be protected, or could Vegas take them in hopes of resigning them? - drummer829
I am really not sure how teams are going to handle that situation...youd think that it would be tough for an expansion team to sign some of those guys...and youd think that most teams would lock them up before they get that close to UFA...but is that used as some weird method of protection? I don't disagree with the theory of trading for a top 6ish guy with a semisizeable cap hit (only way to maximize Fleury's value is to take back some sort of cap), but Frolik just isn't a position of need. We're pretty deep at RW. LW is where we need help. The blogger misses the mark when he hints at trading for Frolik so we can trade Hornqvist. - Victoro311
Can Frolik play LW? I know he's been a RW but sometimes a player may try another position. |

Fleury + rights to BB for #6 overall!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - jmatchett383
Stop that talk!
I think MAF is a very good option for Calgary. We won't have to protect Gilles & he needs probably 2 years in Stockton before really getting a whiff of NHL. Fleury would be an awesome mentor for him in his last year. There is just no way I see Pitt moving Murray. He's cost controlled & has proven more than capable. Cap world, that is huge.
If you want a bigger return for Fleury, you need to take some salary back, otherwise, your probably getting either the #54 or #56 & a prospect like Shore or Arnold or we even throw in one of our 4th rounders with that 2nd.
Now I don't think you guys have a 1st or 2nd rounder this year, so you take Wideman (who is still pretty effective on the PP & give him 10 minutes on 3 pairing) & I could see coughing up both the #54 & the #56.
Or possibly Colborne (RFA looking for around $2.5-3.0mill on a new deal after his 20 G 40pt season) & our 3rd for Fleury.
Never really thought about Frolik for Fleury. Interesting but Flames don't have the forward depth for that & Frolik is one of our better Possession forwards if you're into that kind of stuff
Congrats on your Cup win! |

Pitt is desperate to not expose Murray, and lack suitors, so I am thinking something like Wideman (UFA after next yr) and a lower pick is all you will get. |

Actually, the Flyers main strength right now is their goaltending. Mason and Neuvirth were one of the best tandems in the league last year, and Mason had the best ES Save% 2 years ago.
But the tired narrative is more fun.
By the way, which players have we grabbed just to smite the Penguins? If you say Jagr and Talbot, you're an idiot. - jmatchett383
Oh, I'm not saying they need goal tending per se , but why should that stop them? You think they're high on Mason right now? His playoff performance including his Chico Lind moment in the playoffs is stuff that fans and ownership don't typically look favorably on.
Obliviously anything I'll say you'll beg to differ so I won't bother but before you start name calling, you might want to know I live in your neighborhood.

If they don't need to be protected, I'd think that GMs would work out a deal with these players, and then don't officially sign them until after the expansion draft. |

No, we have the Florida 2nd #54 & the Dallas 2nd #56.

You said the Pens don't have a 1st or 2nd. We have 2 seconds. I see no way we'd want Wideman. Zero chance of that happening. |

He's not LEGIT, as there isn't enough evidence to support that. A lot of goalies can have a solid playoff run, when team D is playing exceptionally well. While I don't think Murray is worth the #6, I do see why a team like Calgary would risk a deal along those lines (maybe some minor parts in there). Murray could be the next top goalie, or he could be the next hyped goalie a la Carrey, Bernier, etc.
Worrying only about next year's cap is not the best solution, imo. It's about risk for me, do you risk losing a solid goalie (Fleury) for nothing (essentially) and banking on a young unproven goalie, or do you stick with Fleury and trade the young goalie for what could potentially be the next major forward piece of the team for the next 10+ years. It is a tough call, but given goalie market for the foreseeable future, along with potential of Jarry, I thin it is a no-brainer. - mventres
Did Carey, Bernier, Lalime ever win a cup? And Murray is Sullivan's guy from when he was setting it on fire in the AHL. It is funny how quick some of you all are to denounce him. |

Its obvious the flames are trying to unload Wideman, but with him making that much, it'll be tough unless you package him with a high pick or decent prospect. Wideman (50% retained) + cgy 2nd for fleury maybe |

Bad timing for a MAF trade. Most of us would probably prefer to keep both MAF and Murray for this coming season but the expansion draft is forcing our hand.
Ideally we find a decent deal for MAF. Not a fan of Frolik at his cost. We already have Hagelin (who I love), Kunitz, and Hornqvist at around $4M and none of them are great even strength producers.
I still think you have to consider the option of trading Murray. Some GM would pay out the ass for him right now and Fleury will still be plenty competent for the next few years.
I know no body here wants to trade guys like Murray or Hornqvist but these guys have big value. I like them a lot but I see no harm in seeing what they're worth. |

Also, no chance Calgary trades Frolik. He is paid a bit higher than he should be bc Calgary's RW depth is bunk with little in the way of prospects on that side. |

Ruth saying we'll try to resign Lovejoy. I just don't see it. I'd love to have him back at the exact same deal. 1.5 is as high as I'd go. I see him making up to 2.2 mil in the open market. |

Unfortunately they had to ride him hard down the stretch to the point where he had nothing left for the playoffs because Nuevy was injured. Nuevy was great vs Wash but there is a reason he is nothing more than a career backup.

I'd love that, but if they add MAF or a similar goalie contract +re-up the kids he will be too expensive, unfortunately. Someone will pay him over 6m a yr. Dont see Calgary being able to afford it. |

1.5, 2 or 1 year is what I'd give. He's gonna get 2-2.5 on 3 to 4 years. |

We have two second round picks.
Have zero interest in Colbourne. He is a center and we are overloaded there. At best, he is a fourth line center if Cullen retires.
We have no use for Wideman. There is zero incentive for us to take on that lousy contract.
If its a second round pick or the 53 and 55 picks for Fleury, so be it. |

Nobody is taking 1 more yr of Kunitz. |
