Murray did not win you the cup... The defense in front of him that only let up minimal shots won you the game. Murray cost the pens a game or two with bad goals. The kid played well under pressure but he wasn't Martin Broduer or Patrick Roy type rookie goalie. He didn't steal the series. If we were talking about SJ goalie Jones I would agree with a lot of this but I think everyone here is high on something. - vanhileman
but he is a stanley cup winner so suddenly he is worth Noah Hanafin or the 6th overall pick |

I don't understand this but whatever. Not a fan of the cap usage but at the end of the day it is only 800k |

I think its hilarious that some are still in love with BB. The 1 game he plays, the Pens had their worst playoff performance. |

Then let someone else have him... he was exposed in the Tampa Series and made you nervous the rest of the way... He won't be a starter in the NHL in two years.
and why does everyone assume you would lose either of your goalies? You think that MAF and Murray are the two best goalies out there for ONE expansion team to try to get??? This is all crazy |

I'm not saying it was Murray who was the main reason for winning the cup, or saying he was not responsible for a couple losses as well, but he did steal them a game against the Caps and played consistently well enough overall that he was as important as anyone else.
People forget Letang had a bad couple of games too but lot's of them think he's MVP worthy. |

Right. And assuming there are zero suitors? - jmatchett383
flyers always need goaltending
then you head into the playoffs with two potential starters.... OO NO WHAT A TERRIBLE THING!

Ridiculous statement. You have no idea. The kid was the AHL goalie of the year. He has pedigree. He was fantastic the first two series.
I think Murray absolutely would be snapped up in the expansion draft. |

You are starting to not make sense...All that matters is if they are the best player on the Penguins for an expansion team to pick really...since Fleury would have to be protected...Murray definitely looks like the best option to pick right now |

whats the rules on players who will be UFAs for the 17-18 season? Guys like Bonino, bishop, burns, etc... will all be UFAs next season. Would they still need to be protected, or could Vegas take them in hopes of resigning them? |

Cane's are inexplicably on the verge of signing Cam Ward to a two year deal. Knock them off the list of potential Fleury suiters... |

The Flyers will and have grabbed players just to smite the Pens. They would love nothing more than to have Fleury on their roster just to be able to stick their tongue out at them.
I'm still surprised they didn't grab Orpik, but I guess the Caps put the number to high. |

That's not the point at all.
If there are no suitors, you are going to lose Matt Murray for nothing in the expansion draft. |

Actually, the Flyers main strength right now is their goaltending. Mason and Neuvirth were one of the best tandems in the league last year, and Mason had the best ES Save% 2 years ago.
But the tired narrative is more fun.
By the way, which players have we grabbed just to smite the Penguins? If you say Jagr and Talbot, you're an idiot. |

By the way... How "minor league" is it that the NHL doesn't have the official rules of the expansion draft established by now? What a joke. It's such a quick off-season schedule with the draft and FA coming quickly.
Should have been written in stone a month ago....at the very least. They knew they were going to expand, regardless what they say. |

I don't disagree with the theory of trading for a top 6ish guy with a semisizeable cap hit (only way to maximize Fleury's value is to take back some sort of cap), but Frolik just isn't a position of need. We're pretty deep at RW. LW is where we need help. The blogger misses the mark when he hints at trading for Frolik so we can trade Hornqvist. |

“I don’t know,” Fleury said after Game 6. “We’ll talk to management before I leave town, I guess. That’s it.”
It's no secret that he wants to be a starter and this says he's expecting to be moved.
If he isn't traded he'll be a distraction so the only question is what's the best deal the Pens can get for him now? |
|
|

[quote=itwasin]
If he does want to be a starter, it's also possible he's waive his NMC to go other places |

It makes sense for them. They have 25M in cap space, and no big name guys to sign. The only other player they need to sign is Rask. |

But why? No reason to spend money on bad assets. |
