I think Calgary is overestimating their bargaining position because of the upcoming expansion. Don't forget you have another season ahead of you, if you dont get a legit #1 goalie you're not making the playoffs again.
Fleury will get a team like Calgary to the show. He has a very reasonable contract, he's still young and he brings experience and leadership from a proven locker room. - stackthepads
Oh... one of their fans said they might rather have Bishop... cause hes a bit better and younger... too bad hes got just 1 year left, and will command a raise |

yeah it was sad. but i can understand it from his perspective. he was a classy professional, but it still has to suck.
had to feel like being the ringbearer for your wifes new marriage or something. - stayinthefnnet
He had his chance to step up and take the net back, but he was awful in his start...and then MM took it and ran. I feel bad, because I really like MAF, when its all said and done, I hope he retires a Pen, even if its a 1 day contract. |

Not a terrible deal. I just think we can find a way to get Shinkaruk or Kylington. - YouMeAndDupuis9
In JR we trust... from what I've been hearing, he will take the team option in his contract and do 1 more year. |

Trade that makes sense both ways IMO is Fleury and Pouliot for TJ Brodie & Klimchuk, plus Pens right to swap 1sts for 2017. Calgary also has several center prospects who could replace Klimchuk in that deal and have it make sense. - Jpripper88
You obviously don't watch any CGY games or TJ Brodie if you think that is fair. And Klimchuk is a LW, not a C. And PIT get rights to swap 2017 1sts?!
I wouldn't trade Brodie for Murray, Pouliot and your 2017 1st. Brodie is as untouchable as any Flames player including Gaudreau. Worst trade proposal I've read in a long time, and I read on here daily. |

Poirier plays both wings but prefers RW. He's a left shot with a ton of speed and grit. - TandA4Flames
Thank you good sir... we will now take one of the more natural LW prospects then |
|

Ortio, would be scrapped....
So their 2nd rounder... and... Poirier, a LW who can score goals and make plays. Seems to be weak defensively according to his analysis currently. Thus, the B prospect.
Talent Analysis
Poirier is a speedy offensive forward. He has great hands, an accurate shot and can make plays at top speed, leading to him often taking defenders by surprise. He plays with plenty of confidence in his abilities and seems to have a knack for creating offensive chances where none appear to exist. Poirier needs to continue to round out his game, especially improving his play without the puck. As he continues to get stronger he has added a physical element to his game.
Future
Poirier is among the promising forwards who will challenge for an NHL roster with the Flames in 2015-16. With a deep, talented group, he could begin the year with Calgary's new AHL affiliate Stockton. The Thunder are one of five California-based teams comprising the Pacific Division. Poirier has added some size and strength since his junior days and should fit in well with the other young forwards who have resurrected the Calgary franchise. - Guile
I'll say the same thing here I said on the Flames blog, I wouldn't do it. If we take Fleury's $5.75 we'll need Ortio as the cheap back up. Plus he's still developing and starting to look good. Poirier worked on his D and 2 way play last year and I believe he is still likely to be a top 6 winger in the NHL. Too much from CGY.

You dont know that Kap is gonna be a bust yet... Harrington, I think we can sign off as one until proven wrong. - Guile
kap will be a bust if he can't learn to have confidence in himself. if he starts to always be confident he will be a good player otherwise he will be a bust and I can say that after watching kalpa since his youth days. |

I actually removed Ortio from the trade... You are more than welcome to keep your cheap backup. And you are highly undervaluing that contract for what is a franchise goalie. Going rate on most now will be 7 mil+ |

I'm not writing him off yet... if i see another year of being in Toronto killing him, then hes a bust. |

Then I'll say it's possible. But I'd still rather keep Poirier and give you Klimchuck. |

Well we'll just see then. If a deal is there, I think we've all learned that JR is going to get it done. |

I wouldn't call be put in a no win situation after not playing in 1.5 months being given a shot to take the net back, letting him and Murray battle for the net through training camp and the preseason would be giving him a chance to earn the net back, what he got was a shot in the dark to spark the team and Murray after a few lackluster performances. I also wouldn't say MM took it back and ran with it, the team went into beast mode starting with game 6 and made goaltending irrelevant, Murray did the job but when the goalie is being asked to make 4-5 saves every period I would call that spectacular play by the goalie. |

Penguins not even in the playoffs without Flower. Murray was amazing, but I would keep MAF for the first half of season to make sure it wasn't a 1 and done. There's no pressing needs..leave things alone. Trade Zatkoff. You can always trade one of these goalies down the line if needed. |

You can't trade Zatkoff... we don't own him for next season yet. UFA |

Fleury, pouliot, 2nd for Wideman (2 mil retained) and their #6. Then we draft chychrun. He did tweet a few days ago that Sid was no doubt the best player in the world |

Id love Fleury on the Leafs next year. Id move the 30th and maybe a 2017 or 2018 3rd to get him. Always was one of my favs and hard watching him back up murray in the cup run.
Personal fleury story...back at the 2003 prospects game in kitchener ontario, my family were season ticket holders so we were invited to the top prospect game and dinner. Each table got to sit with a player (we sat with paul bissonette, super cool guy) and my younger brother who was 8 at the time was a big fleury fan and wanted to meet him so paul took him over to meet him and fleury actually took the time to hang out with him and even let him open his top prospect award out of the box. That shows what kind of person he is. Id take him on my team any day. |

I'd do our 1st pick back, plus a 2017 3rd for fleury. The problem is would fleury want to go there? If it's during the summer and by some chance the leafs landed Matthews AND stamkos plus made some trades to bolster their defense, I could see fleury being interested there. The leafs did quite well on their rebuild and will probably contenders quicker than most that go through a rebuild |

I think knowing lou and babcock he would welcome coming to toronto. Lou wants a goalie to play every night and playing for a veteran coach who plays a style that limits shots fleury could do really well here.

I'd rather a ready prospect who could compete for a roster spot next season, than the 1st back. pretty much saving us a year of development in a sense, for virtually the same cost... late first = B Prospect more often than a top tier. |
