The issue with Wideman to the Pens would be two-fold.
First, he would be a 5th Dman at best behind Letang, Dumoulin, Maatta, & Daley. As a result he also likely wouldn't get much PP time w/ Letang being on the 1st until w/ 4 F's & Daley/Maatta on the second, which would neuter his point totals as well. Do the Pens want to pay a guy $5.25M for 3rd pairing minutes? I don't see it.
Second, if you play D for the Pens you have to be able to skate like crazy - Letang, Daley, Maatta, Dumoulin, & Pouliot can all skate. Only Cole is really average or below average in the skating department. I don't think Wideman has the wheels left to fit into their system.
Fleury could probably be moved for a D prospect that is two years away or picks. Pens would prefer young, cost controlled role players, but Fleury probably isn't worth that in trade right now. - s0rcerer1984
Id be willing to bet that some salary on Wideman would be retained. Not saying he's the only answer but I think his play is realistically in the middle between two seasons ago and last year. I see him slightly under Maata and Daley but just. He was good on the PP.
Realistically if a deal with Calgary is to be had it will be a 2 round pick and a prospect.

so isn't that essentially a full trade clause.
fleury could just put Calgary, Toronto, Carolina, Buffalo, Dallas as teams he's blocked from. Pick every potentially team in the mkt for a veteran goalie and block them
Essentially what kessel did. He only put teams close to the cap on his trade list. - sditulli
What's Fleury's purpose for that? If he wants to be a starter, he'll need to go to one of those places. |

it's funny. I remember a conversation with Vic311 earlier in the season about how he wouldn't even trade Murray for Bennett and I said there's no way the Flames would make that deal. Funny what a very successful playoff run can do to one's value. I think the Flames would be all over the chance to acquire Murray now. - Blackstrom2

If you are the Las Vegas GM, you have to select at least 3 goalies during the expansion draft. Can you name 3 goalies better than either Fleury/Murray who you would select? Or can you name a likely unprotected F or D from the Pens that you would select instead? I can't.
•The expansion team is required to select one player from every team including a minimum of three (3) goalies, nine (9) defenseman and fourteen (14) forwards.

From empty netters:
"My elbow got infected in the playoffs there," Bonino said. "After Game 3 of the - cap1681[Stanley Cup Final], I was on antibiotics. If I had a fever over I think it was 101, they were going to shut me down for the year. I was a on a ton of antibiotics. I was getting [intravenous fluids] every day in the hospital. It was good. The [doctors] did a really good job of keeping my elbow healthy. I don't think I practice the whole last series. Guys were ripping me for it because I just played games. I didn't have to practice anymore. I just rested up and we got it done. … I was quarantined in a hotel. I wasn't even living at home. They didn't want me around the baby. It was a weird time. But it was worth it to win."
That is awesome...I love the NHL so much

Yikes. I get it that the Pens likely don't move Murray without getting a premium piece like a Bennett or the 6th overall pick but why would Calgary risk losing big on that move?
Still though I wonder if they make an offer of like the 6th overall, 97th pick for Murray, 55th & 61st picks.

so we lose our cup champion goalie and 2 2nd rounders for 2 picks which can be busts? |

Yohe guessed Fleury's value at solid top 9 roster player + Blue chip prospect + pick.
All things being equal it probably is. I feel like we're devaluing MAF because we now have two goalies. If I was a team without a solid starter, I would be salivating at the chance to shore up that position for the next few years. I get that it's more of a buyer's market, but MAF has a lot more value than cap dump, imo. |

If Fleury wants to force the Pens to keep him, he could certainly try. He'd have to name 18 teams he could be traded to & could try to pick 18 teams who are near the Cap/have established goalies. Kessel did it effectively, but I think he had a veto over the more than 12 teams Fleury has.
Now Fleury could also decide he wants to go be a starter again so he can get a solid contract 2 years from now as a starter & waive his NTC to go to a team he has on his list. This would help the Pens trade him.
My only point is, waiting to mid-season when more teams are closer to the Cap or aren't looking for a veteran goalie as they are out of the Cup race carries the risk of no trade happening for a variety of reasons, including Fleury deciding he wants to stay in Pitt., & the Pens losing Murray. Need to move Fleury now or be prepared to lose Murray later. |

Thats remotely fair... Or a higher pick, 2nd rounder, and a top 9 roster player on an ELC/RFA cheap deal. |

But its a market with allot of tendies (and good ones) being potentially shopped as a result of the expansion draft. Were that not on the horizon, i doubt there a conversation to this extent. |

Keep in mind not all the details may not be 100% accurate. NHL will finalize them prior to the upcoming draft.
Still, I think the general outlines of the proposed expansion draft are likely to remain unchanged at this point. ie, only 7F, 3D, & 1G protected. |
