I don't know MM. Its a tough spot. Lets say he plays decent next year after an injury plagued season, is it worth it then? I'm willing to roll the dice and see what happens next year with Girardi. Granted it should be with his ice time cut. - mdw7413
I want to believe Girardi can come back from last year and be a serviceable player for the Rangers.
It's not a big risk because come hell, or high water, the Rangers aren't going to keep him around for the entirety of his current contract. Can't have both Staal and Girardi here anymore though.
If one stays, I can live with that, but they just can't have two bad contracts on the blueline while forcing to part ways with better, cheaper and/or both, thus weakening an already fragile hockey club.

Yeah definitely, I'm just thinking in the short term, next year and possibly the one after it, If Girardi can be a decent defenseman again its probably best for the Rangers.

His revival or continual decline will be a huge indicator of just how competitive this team will be over the next season or so.
MDW how does yesterdays deal mean they cant trade Girardi? To me it gives a little hope on that front. you're just looking at having to package a young cheap player with him like say Lindberg.. interesting idea

it doesn't remove Girardi's NMC, and Bickell only had 1 more year on his deal for 4 million
Girardi has 4 more years at 5.5 million, not even same universe

Do you really want to retain a bunch of salary for a lot of years on Girardi? Because that is what it would take to move him. Better play would be to have him come back this year and hope his health improved. Every year he plays the salary retained would be less, or the buyout becomes more reasonable.
