So yesterdays Hawks/Canes trade looks like pretty bad news for those wanting to trade Girardi.

Looks like buyout or he is here to stay.

True.

But if we go back to those Hotstove blogs where the bloggers rated whether Staal or Girardi's contracts were worth it, you will see every last one of us in there arguing, at the time, in favor of those contracts.

Fans invest in their teams in different ways than paid executives, responsibly for assembling a competitive team, should.

Sather and Co. are paid, very well might I add, to set aside their feelings and do what's best for the team.

NMCs, to good but far from great players, are killers to keeping a team progressive and most importantly, competitive.

Brooks already reported that management has determined that Girardi is here to stay for next season as they believe his struggles were primarily due to injury

A Girardi buyout is worth it at this point though.

It leaves enough money to re-sign Yandle and not have to weaken other areas on the team with forced trades to clear up cap space.

if they gave Girardi two more years and bought him out summer of 2018,

the cap hits:

2018-19: 3.5 mil
2019-20: 3.5 mil
2020-21: 1 mil
2021-22: 1 mil

Brooks also stated that the Rangers and Jim Vesey is a possibility.

I don't believe either one.

My reaction with 4th liner Czikas and his 29 total NHL goals for 3.35..

So basically its worth it to hope for 2 more years for Girardi, and like RD said it was the injuries.

When it comes to reporting internal Rangers information, I put Brooks' credibility up there with Bob McKenzie and Elliotte Friedman.

It's when he starts writing sensational "Zedd's Dead" pieces that he begins to look like a clown. But internal roster moves and contract negotiations are spot on by Brooks.

I don't know MM. Its a tough spot. Lets say he plays decent next year after an injury plagued season, is it worth it then? I'm willing to roll the dice and see what happens next year with Girardi. Granted it should be with his ice time cut.

Yep, late 03-04 season when we dealt off half the team at that deadline. If I remember he sounded cold on the trade & was never gonna play here. Remember a 46 yr old Messeir down the stretch in that season in his swan song playing w Josef Balej & Jed Ortmeyer. That was one BAD season, the culmination of many bad seasons. Somehow we swept the 6 game season series w the Islanders, the only positive thing that yr.
