He gets a B- in my book. He scored a career high in goals this year despite missing 10 games. He also had a kid and needs to see a new dentist, so that doesn't play well for his grade. He makes a TON of money for a very solid all around player, but he usually leaves a bit to be desired.
If he were traded, how on earth would our PK look next year?

Chiefs figured out how to minimize a video to make it so small it was just a dot, and also made it autoplay. So basically he would take a horrible song and autoplay it for a page, and god forbid someone quoted it to the next page. No way to turn it off.

Agree with a better grade than C+. Stepan was one of the better Rangers this season. I would actually go a B from the suggested B+ only due to his poor performance in the dot. I recall too many d-zone draws which he cleanly lost that lead to immediate goals against.

That crazy Islanders game, Lost a faceoff and Cluster(frank) scored with like a minute to go.
that friggin game, cost us a chance to face the Penguins in the playoffs - jimbro83
How frustrating was that season series w them? Lose all 4 games, the last one looking like ok, it least we'll miss the "death bracket" & face the Panthers, only to win a meaningless game against Detroit & the Isles tank the last 2 & finish 1 point behind, but in a much better position.
Interesting we finally play them again twice this coming pre-season. I think its been since 2007 the last time we played in the exhibition vs them, that wild Coliseum game w Simon playing even though he was still to serve the Hollweg suspension once the season started again & there were fights & DiPietro against Montoya. I can't remember but I think Sather had some say in wanting the league NOT to face us off against them in pre-season. Or maybe that was Neil Smith after the 98 season & the wild Cloutier/Salo brawl.
Also in that same 07 pre-season game Sean Avery was a scratch but had a run in with Garth SNow down round the lockeroom. Always a gong show w Ranger/Isles Coliseum games.

the Isles kicked our ass all year long, if we had just won ONE of those games, we could have faced the Penguins

So it wasn't bad enough Simon had already tried to decapitate Hollweg (who was a pug & I never liked, but nobody deserved that) & no way should have been playing in this game, you knew it would be nutty. But then he clearly goes looking for Hollweg again & hits him from behind & keeps throwing punches even when he's being held back, real man.

I could see moving Stepan up but his grade does get adversely impacted by the PL struggles. Maybe I was a bit harsh and could see moving up the grade.

Easy killer, we are just having some fun at your expense Jan. You do a great job.
he was the best player on the team in the 2nd half of the season on a team that finished with 101 points. Awful first half but the teeth issues and the Beleskey hit were huge factors in that.
I do agree that he could be traded though, with one of the biggest reasons being his NMC starts 7/2/2017
NMC's are a killer, they have to make it team policy not to give them out anymore - jimbro83
You only give a NMC to your two best players. Sather's contractual negotiation skills were straight F the last seven years.

I think we should put a temporary ban on Jan's blogs just until we figure out what's going on
Good all around player. Think he would be best served as a really good #2 center. FO and foot speed bring him down, but incredible hockey sense and vision. Underrated shot also. If he is overpaid it is only slightly, and I think the rangers would be better off keeping him than trying to trade him as unless the long shot stamkos thing happens i dont see a viable upgrade option. Id give him a B or even B+ on the year as the second half he was really the best player.

To be fair, every team in the league has been handing out NMCs like candy.
I think Sather has actually been decent about it relative to others. Stepan, Brassard, Girardi, McDonagh, Zuccc etc. all don't have full NMCs for the life of their contracts.
