Haven't heard anything about guaranteed 3rd for 3 years.

Generalfananger changed their expansions tool so that you don't have to just protect 7f3d1g to be able to protect any 8skaters and a goalie like the leak says. That should help team like minny who could protect their top 4d but then may lose a forward.


The issue is going to be with clb. They may be (frank)ed 4ways to Sunday. They have so many crappy guys on nmc (Foligno, Dubinsky, hartnall) eating up a protected space that they are for sure going to lose a significant piece. If they want to protect Murray and savard and Jones they don't have room for saad. If they want to protect saad they lose of of savard, Jones Murray.

I think you are right. Columbus knows that the answer to their problem has to involve trading one of their young Dmen plus a locked salary (e.g. Hartnell or Foligno) and not take back any asset that needs to be protected.

They can do a pretty good deal with a bunch of teams. For example, what could Edmonton offer up for Murray and Hartnell? If they offered the #4 pick, Columbus would be sitting with the #3 and #4 on draft day. I think we are going to see some spectacular deals around the draft.
