Matthews scores only with wrister and snapshot. Practically never with onetimer or slapshot. Maybe no one even taught him that these kind of shot types exist? He also scores practically all his goals close to the goal. Either a quick wrister there, or he is prowling for rebounds. He doesn't even use his backhand practically ever for scoring. Didn't also see him score almost any breakaway goals by dekeing the goalie. Matthews is in fact going to run into some serious trouble with his goal scoring in the NHL, as his scoring is based completely on getting to the area's where he will now have to battle with much, much stronger, better and also even more agile defencemen. He will not get even half of the chances for scoring goals, as he did in NLA or in USNDP, while playing against just JUNIORS.

Laine on the other hand can score exactly with almost every possible way that you can do in hockey. He sure could get better in front of the goal, but on the other hand it is not so much even needed for him. He is going to be much more dangerous further away from goal. Then if he can play with a hard working garbage goal getter, and one talented playmaker, he will definitely be a much, much more dangerous goal scorer than Matthews. And this will most likely be very well possible for Laine in Winnipeg.

Unless Matthews really learns to shoot with much more variety and not be totally dependant of scoring so close to the goal, he will for sure have huge problems with his goal scoring.

But lets just wait and see...

Too bad you are not happy with Matthews - Have seen little evidence from games watched, clips, stats, and posts on this blog to think he is anything but a future star in the NHL. The best pick this year and certainly the best pick the Leafs have been allowed to make since the draft was instituted in 1963. If you are so unhappy with the pick - maybe time for you to join Spatso as a Sens Fan - I am sure they will do miracles with the #12 pick.

The stupidity of the whole Laine argument is very real.

It's obvious the guy writing it is Patrik Laine himself

He's even got the broken grammar, dead giveaway

Edit: And his Country is even Finland!!

I'm slightly disappointed that it was believable that I'd write a post like that myself and mean it.

Can you really blame the guy? He is looking at being forced to move to Winnipeg after all.

It really is quite remarkable how hard he is trying to make the case for #1

Makes sense though.

Play in the hockey fishbowl, which a hot shot like him would thrive in, or go to the Peg

Give him credit.

Pat is working hard and being creative in getting his message out there. Laine #1!

People aren't catching on to reposts, jokes or sarcasm out here today. But that'll happen if you jump into the middle of a conversation. I usually start reading two or three pages back from the current one.

That post has a serious tone to it, like it's not even someone trolling. They honestly believe it.

I've had an account on there for probably a decade but I've never posted. Sometimes it's tempting.

Don't know : But LV just announced they have hired the captain of their cheer leading squad. When she takes a bus load of fans to the ranch she simply yells out her name.

He's trying to say you have to compare 2016 Laine to 2015 Matthews since Matthews is older.

I think.

He may not even know what his point is himself.

The excuses these (frank)s come up with are hilarious. Matthews wouldn't be ranked #1 if those things were a huge deal.

It's pretty clear he don't know..... He's older, now he's younger. One guy can score as is, the other guy will have trouble scoring (even though the way he scores is nhl ready)

It's so funny watching these guys reach.
