At least something got done early. That's a good thing. This is hopefully part of some other moves. I was never a huge TT fan, and hated him at center. That said the Hawks gave a high potential player to another team to eat cap. A typical salary cap era type trade, one that doesn't deserve criticism nor celebration. Just a modern era trade to get rid of a crud contract. Bickell is off the books next year so Carolina really had nothing to lose. Getting the Hawks back into the draft with a #2 this year will make that day less boring.

Crow for Hamonic may make sense for both clubs. Hawks get cap controlled excellent defender who wanted to move West anyway. Hawks save dollars. NYI gets a proven playoff goalie with durability. Could be a deal that works for everyone. I think with those two pairings plus whoever they put with Kempny on the third pairing shelters Darling enough to make him successful.

Otherwise, not sure. Winnipeg has some younger defensive prospects that may be attractive. I don't know what comes the other way from Buffalo outside of cap relief and futures.

Writing on the wall for TT and much of that is on the player. You can say whatever about that trade but glad the Bickell money is gone. Begs the question as to why they had to include Johns with the Sharp deal unless Bowman was really hard for Daley. And both Q and Scotty hate guys in the back who aren't pass first so that whole thing is again perplexing.

So... next year's lines:

???? - Toews - Hossa
Panarin - Anisimov - Kane
Panik - Kruger - Shaw
Desjardins - Lundberg - ????
???

Keith - Seabrook
Kempny - Hammer
Gustaffson - TVR
Svedberg

Crawford
Darling

Lots of opportunities for Schmaltz, Motte, Hartman, et al...

- DMChi2010

I think there's a long way to go before lineups...the bottom 6 isn't anywhere improved...and if Gusffson is anywhere in the lineup, much the same on D

I was not expecting to see TT go. The logical path was to buy out 29 and let 86 continue to develop or hope he does. If it came down to the fact that Ladd would agree to stay at a reasonable deal?? Ladd or Shaw? I know Im way off, but I would really like to keep Ladd. Money is still very tight and one would think another deal has to be in the works. I think an off season of rest would help Ladd a great deal.

Stan ain't messing around. To look at it another way is that Stan got out in front of the salary cap number and got Bicks off the books. If I could go back to the Ladd trade, I would have rather sent TT then Dano. Oh well..

- z1990z

Ladd has not played that much post season hockey in recent years. I am not sure he needs rest (other than he is 30+ and had some nagging injuries).

I too would have rather traded TT than Dano or Danault.

In a city of 300k people, not a bad turnout. Not every city has 3mil people like Chicago.

No way stanbow wanted to move TT...they gave him 3-4 years and he was stan's prized number 1. Without this vice of cap crunching them and 72's explosion on the scene; TT is still here.

But so it goes in Bettmans NHL where championship teams have to sell assets year after year...

1. His lack of taking the next step this year
2. No position for him
3. Expansion draft vulnerable
4. And RFA status next year
5. a soft WC paler

its cya...he will most likely improve his stats in the east...

the return is poor but all that tells you is the uselessness of old 29

Rockford signed today goalie Jake Hildebrand from Michigan State Univ. to one year deal. So there is Carruth, Hildebrand, McIntyre, Johansson and who else fighting for a job?

Those boys can be leased out to the ECHL as well...

Just three; Carruth, Hildebrand and Johansson.

McIntyre will be in Germany next season, if memory serves right.

- HelloFriend

Your memory serves you correctly. McIntyre will play in the DEL next season. Additionally, McIntyre was horrid in his short stint in Rockford late last season.

As for the Hildebrand signing, I'll bet he's depth that will be stashed in Indy this coming season.

If Shaw stays, I would expect him in the top 6 unless another forward is added that we are not aware of yet.

The Mystery 4th Line... but yes the door is open for some youngsters to step up and claim a spot. I really hope Moose is still in the fold. Having him at the #4 C spot would be really helpful.
Still think Hoss starts the year with 19, but who knows. Is there anyone in Rockford that can step up and man that #4 C spot? McNeil maybe??

It is amazing what the cap has done to this team. Look at the guys we have had to move over the years? Makes you sick. In theory we could look like this..

Johns from everything I heard from people who would know was not only the #1 dman prospect but the #1 overall Ice Hog prospect at the time of the trade.
Nill was in control and wanted Johns and Bowman had no other out for Sharp....Daley was part of the deal only because Bowman couldn't spend an extra $400to keep Oduya.

Like I said a few times the entire deal was scripted by Nill....

Just messing around.

The Bickell contract really threw a wrench into things. Lost Saad because of it...

Learn something new every day.

Chula Vista has more people than Pittsburgh. Talk about "rust belt".

Every citizen of Pittsburgh PLUS approximately 96,000 interlopers attended the Pens parade.

Damn!

I think most Gm's would agree those guys were traded in reverse order of expectations and potential...Dano was first and the least thought of by the front office.

Zawaski was the primary source for the Saad trade (said originally that he was hearing the two sides are far apart) and he was the first to suggest the Hawks could trade Bickell but it might cost them Teuvo. I don't follow him entirely, but it seems like he is the Hawks' go-to guy for dropping some rumors.
- DMChi2010

Pretty sure JJ called TT as the cost to lose Bickell before Zawaski. Not 100% certain though.

While I don't agree with the "fleecing" comment (only time will tell), I like what this guy says about the impact of the salary cap and drive for parity. (Not that people on this board haven't been saying the same things for some time.)

Thanks for positing this link--

from the article--

And the reason why is pretty damned depressing. It’s because the salary cap punishes teams that develop good, young players and spends money to perpetuate a winning culture and rewards those who muddle around in mediocrity and do it on the cheap.

EXACTLY what I have been lamenting-- there needs to be a proposal for a cap exemption designated ONLY for drafted players that a team develops-- so they can actually retain them when their second contract is due after ELC--

Its become predatory the way some losing teams wallow in the weeds of bottom cap and standing dwelling-- then pounce when teams who have won or are trying to are punished by a stagnant cap-- MUST BE AMENDED_-

I have said for awhile Halak is not a #1 to be counted on....Streaky and often hurt.
But there isn't much cap savings for the Hawks after this season if they were to make that deal...And at the very least they would have take back Greiss..which might not be bad but he earns $2 mill or so.

The overriding issue is the Isles would have about $11 mill tied up in 2 goalies and that isn't a good recipe imo....Just ask the Dallas Stars.
