UFA starts 7/1. So trading those rights now for instance gives the receiving team two weeks+ to sign him.

Is one long off-season going to be enough for some of these guys?

Six weeks additional rest, with 15-20 less grinding games and a big drop in summer-long partying. The only good to come out of an early playoff exit. Can't hurt.

Good news about the dead cap hit this year is that it provides the room for Panarin's big raise next year. (and yes, I know there's Darling, Panik and maybe a couple others up for raises next year).

Dead hits this year:
$1.125m Scuderi
$3.05m carry-over bonuses
$100k Runbad salary hit for burying in the rock.
$4.3m dead hit this year goes away next year.
One of the others due for a raise next year was Teuvo. Not any more.

Shaw's playoff stats with two Cup winners, one WCF finalist. Ladd's with one Cup winner and the Winnipeg Jets. Context.

The age thing is somewhat valid but the miles on Shaw are a lot harder and he may have a serious and chronic back issue—not good-especially with his style of play.

Ladd's offensive game is a bit more refined; he will be more productive.

AND, he is a natural LW, Shaw is a square peg there.

Hawks pay by way of prospects for M-A Fleury to save $250,000. This is an adequate workload former team starter.
Stan says. “The idea is do get Darling more experience and Marc-Andre as adequate partner.”
Improbable
Fleury wants to play, not share, so even if the idea is to further groom Darling and have Fleury as the expansion fodder, how does this actually help?

Stan says. “The idea is do get Darling more experience and since Michal has averaged 18 starts in the last fives seasons and we will attempt to hand the 62 other games to Scott as an audition for being our playoff goalie, but we also know Neuvirth has played in parts of twelve Stanley playoff games and has won six of them.”

Why would the Flyers trade the affordable Nervirth? To throw one of their goalie prospects, Anthony Stolarz, Felix Sandstorm, or Matej Tomek into the fire???
It is a known fact now that Mason has always wanted to be the guy and carry the heavy work load-now that Ray Emery’s contract is off the books that gives him the opportunity and Neuvirth may play his way into more matches, but it begs the question: Isn’t this a move that more probably sends the Flyers backward than forward?

Historical precedence shows teams don't trade their drafted prospects unless they are sure they are on the road to being busts.

So then the Flyers carry a CAP hit on three goalies, until the begining of the season wavier and some team gets the select then unprote unprotetced one for free?
